Commision and other stuff

Noticed that the city commission there in ark city is going back to the mid-day Friday work session.
This is a sign that the old order, which is now  the new order, has taken over.
The argument for thursday evening was so the working public could come to the meetings. The argument against that was that no one ever comes anyway, and i guess it is more convenient for members to meet at that time.
Of course if commissioners have a day job, that could be an issue.
As a reporter, the work session is always much more interesting than the meeting. I once covered a commission in another state and rarely actually went to a meeting. The meetings are a formality in a sense while the work session is where stuff gets hashed out.
You can still go to the regular meeting and you can still speak there.
The thing is, its rare for very many people to show up at a work sessions or at a meeting.

I saw where they have found bin laden and he is dead. Both sides are already lining up to take credit. Both sides should be embarrassed that it took them 10 years. :)

  1. Ding, dong the witch is dead. I'm glad we finally got him. The only problem I have is the "party" attitude some people are taking. Look, to kill an enemy in battle is one thing, (that's what you do in war)
...but should we dance around the body?
How is that any different than when the Muslims danced in the street one 9/11?

    Just sayin'.

  2. I'd say the Public isn't really interested in the Commission unless they do something that impacts them directly - even then most of them just chalk it up to wait till the next election!

Probably not the best atmosphere for getting people involved - but it also kind of suggests they don't want them invovled. (We will have to see what happens to the new TIF district.)

JJ, I can't believe you mentioned the commission and Bin laden in the same post.;-)

I hope his death doesn't embolden some of the most radical terrorist to do some things that were considered "too extreme" when he was alive!

I hope they never had or no longer have that capacity! (I hope all those stories of dirty bombs and suitcase Nukes are just stories!)

His death is certainly no loss to the rest of the world - and U.S. specials forces Rock! They are the best in the World - Go Navy Seals!)

  3. dq has a great point here about bin laden. we do need to act a little differently than his radical followers do...
hard to say what the affect will be.
since it has been so long, there are probably other structures in place now, so it might not have much of an affect at all..
just not sure how much of a leader he continued to be after the years in hiding.

Well it's a little hard to believe Pakistan didn't know where he was - as the result of the recent news!

I don't think those type of people reguard TIME or revenge in the same manor that we do in the Western Developed Countries! They just pass it on from one Generation to the NEXT!

Good point. In a $1M fortified mansion in the middle of town next to an army barracks. Only way they couldn't know is if their "intelligence community" lives in the stone age.

  6. osama's real name is tim orsman, a well trained cia agent for decades now. he simply passed away from kidney problems in 2002, and the nsa just kept him 'on ice', till the next puppet president needed to divert the u.s. citizens attention away from all the freedoms they are losing, along with the value of the dollar. It's is all just smoke and mirrors foreign/domestic relations

  7. From Wikipedia:

Beliefs and ideology Main article: Beliefs and ideology of Osama bin Laden

Osama believed that only the restoration of Sharia law would "set things right" in the Muslim world, and that alternatives such as —"pan-Arabism, socialism, communism, democracy"—must be opposed.[34] This belief, in conjunction with violent jihad, has sometimes been called Qutbism after being promoted by Sayyid Qutb.[35] Osama believed that Afghanistan, under the rule of Mullah Omar's Taliban, was "the only Islamic country" in the Muslim world.[36] Osama consistently dwelt on the need for violent jihad to right what he believed were injustices against Muslims perpetrated by the United States and sometimes by other non-Muslim states,[37] the need to eliminate the state of Israel, and the necessity of forcing the US to withdraw from the Middle East. He also called on Americans to "reject the immoral acts of fornication (and) homosexuality, intoxicants, gambling, and usury," in an October 2002 letter.[38]

Osama's ideology included the idea that civilians, including women and children, are legitimate targets of jihad.[39][40] Osama was anti-Semitic, and delivered warnings against alleged Jewish conspiracies: "These Jews are masters of usury and leaders in treachery. They will leave you nothing, either in this world or the next."[41] Shia Muslims have been listed along with "Heretics,... America and Israel," as the four principal "enemies of Islam" at ideology classes of bin Laden's Al-Qaeda organization.[42]

In keeping with Wahhabi beliefs,[43] Osama opposed music on religious grounds,[44] and his attitude towards technology was mixed. He was interested in "earth-moving machinery and genetic engineering of plants" on the one hand, but rejected "chilled water" on the other.[45]

Well, if we'd known that we could have just sent in Kevin Bacon.

  9. OK...off topic: Can anyone tell me why Wichita's gas prices are always 20 cents cheaper than Ark City?

    ReplyDelete
  10. I used to hear people say that gas was cheaper at the casinos. I been told they are not that much cheaper anymore!

Dillons and a few other places give dicounts on their gas for purchasing products at their stores!

Other than that I think it partially has to do with transportation costs, the volume of sales and the fact that - You don't have a choice unless you want to go out of town! (But gas use to raise in price a few cents at a time - now the price seems to moves in bigger increments!
(That makes me wonder if they are hedging against the rise in price for their next load of gas.)

(Btw: Good luck in getting a straight answer out of any of them on the difference in prices.)

  11. Don't forget about competition. Prices will be much different when you have 7 vendors, as opposed to over 100 fighting for your business.

  12. Here is an article that you might want to read. It's an attempt to explain the relationship between Economic Growth and JOBS!
Why just maybe it doesn't work the same way today!

** I really thought the part about the "FIRE" sector being 1/4 of GDP was interesting!

  13. T.Y. for the link... interesting. We bought a shirt at Walmart for $4.00 that's right $4.00 BUT, it was made in Cambodia. If you would have paid an American worker that same shirt would have cost 3-4 times that. (if you can find one that says "made in U.S.A.") We SCREAM about jobs being shipped overseas, yet we will SCREAM about prices. The old "chicken or egg" Oh well.

@7:01 may have a point. In laymen's terms, the gaso retailers in a small town rape their customers. Why? Because they can. It's not about shipping. Don't tell me it costs 20 cents more a gallon to bring that truck to A.C. as opposed to Wichita. Highway robbery. Legal, yes...but robbery none the less.

  14. I only visit on Thursday mornings now and have stopped posting. I guessed this would happen, and I was right. Look for an opinion from James soon about abortion, guns, or, well, actually anything will set the 3 little GOPs on their Fox rants.

    See you next Thursday.
