Monday police report, updates

Good morning.
The latest cop report has been posted on the web site. Nothing real exciting. There were several young people charged with drinking, minor in consumption and such. These are people who are 18. Thats always a good debate - the legal drinking age.
But it is against the law, so you take your chances when you break the law.
Also, ive started putting the time posted on the link to the web site, so you can tell when it has been updated.
The site is continuing to "evolve," but hopefully with some intelligent design behind it as well.
I am still working on the design. I know where I want to go with it, just not quiet there yet.
The city is to have a budget meeting tonight. I plan on going, and I hope to have my internet access figured out by then. I hope to live blog it, so tune in at 5:30 and see if it worked out.

Proverbs 29:18
Where [there is] no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy [is] he.
Proverbs 29:22
An angry man stirs up dissension, and a hot-tempered one commits many sins.
Proverbs 29:23
A man's pride brings him low, but a man of lowly spirit gains honor.

Where there is no vision - no truth - no revelation, people suffer.
What is vision?

Classified ads

Ive got a few classified ads up on the "Classies" page on the web site.
Would like to encourage everyone to send me your ads.
The page is getting some hits, so I think people are interested.
Since im doing some shameless self promotion here. I have also gathered a lot of ads where there are some good deals. They are on my online store, also on the site.
Some new things have been added, and im constantly adding more.
If you buy something there - something you would by anyway - l will get a commission.
thanks

walking on city air

I was looking over the memo that outlined the city's concerns with allowing people to access their internet service in order to do live blogs.
The concerns were raised by the IT manager, and brought up by Lane Massey.
Ill share them with you and you can decide whether its legitimate or not.
Of course, they do not "have to" let anyone access their internet service. We can use an Air Card or some such other device for live blogging, so overall, it's not that big of a deal.
First there is a bandwidth concern. If enough people were on there, it could slow their system dwon and that could disrupt police functions, fire - ems functions, and regular IT maintenance.
There were two people - organizations - using their wireless. I had heard there were more making requests, but how many could that have been?
Second, there is the concern that a virus could spread from a person's computer to the city's system. We did not have access to the actual network or the city's actual system.
Third was power and heat consumption. They added a concern about people wanting to plug into the wall for power in addition to the internet. The concern was people tripping - a safety hazard. So they may want us to sit by a power outlet to plug in.
As I said, it's not that big of a deal to get access in some other way.
Just my opinion: I think their first concern is legitimate, No. 2 is questionable, and No. 3 is just coming up with a No. 3.

Good Friday morning

Good morning everyone.
The new police reports are posted on the site.
I have the new fishing column, with pictures, and hope to have it posted soon. Maybe this morning, so check back.
Im still looking for more columnists, so get in touch with me if you have an idea.
Im still trying to get settled in after the trip. seems there is really a lot to do just to try to catch up with the news and the site.
That's not to mention the list of things the wife wants done. Guess she is feeling better too.
I have several stories to tell from the trip. Its interesting how things spark new ideas while out on the road.
There is a lot we can do in Arkansas City. What do you think it will take to get people moving and active?

police bust meth lab

I just posted a story about the meth lab bust on the web site.
www.arkcityrevived.com

The commotion on E. 5th Ave., was a search and eventual arrests for the meth lab police say they found there.

getting closer

We almost made it to Springfield, Missouri last night. We should get back today. Just two days late, not so bad for us.
Im feeling much better but the wife is still sick. She is doing better, but we were making lots of emergency stops for her yesterday.
We are near a little town called Mountain Grove. Found a pretty cheap place along the highway. Surprisingly not run by Indians. Ive nothing against Indians - Asian - running hotels. Its just a surprise when its not.
Some of these cheap places along the road are not bad at all. This motel has a nice sized room. The usual stuff. We can usually tell from the outside what a place will be like, and we are not hesitant to ask to see the room first.
About all of them have free wireless internet now.
Some do not allow dogs.

I wish I could have made it to the city commission meeting last night.
But I will catch up on covering the city in a few days.
Ive not had many people post classified ads on here, send em in and ill get them on on for you.

I do have the cop notes updated.

Sunday, almost out of Kentucky

Around 7 p.m. we were walking around Princeton, Kentucky, when we realized that we would not get out of Kentucky today - Sunday.
Its taken us two days to get about 500 miles. well half of yesterday was at a family gathering near Knoxville, TN. Its been a nice ride through the back roads.
Little towns keep distracting us.
We went through a lot of back roads in Kentucky today. Some were pretty interesting. Went through a lot of tobacco fields.
The picture with this is tobacco plants. Was not sure if people in Kansas knew what they looked like. Pretty early in the growing season. Plants get to be around 5 foot tall.
I was involved in growing tobacco as a kid in East Tennessee.
Anyhoo. We also went through a town called Cadiz, where there are a lot of ceramic pigs all painted up. Remember the burros in New Mexico?
Well its just like that except its pigs. They have a big ham festival and the pigs are a part of that.
We need to get something like that going in Arkansas City.
Princeton was interesting too. Just had interesting buildings. We found it by accident. A GPS is a great thing, and sometimes it sends you to interesting places.
We will have a long day of driving tomorrow, but most of that will be in Missouri and Kansas, which is area that we have covered before.
Should be home tomorrow night.
Ill be home in time to cover the city commission meeting Tuesday.
I will try to get the cop notes posted tomorrow, but it might be evening.
Should be interesting to see what happens with the live blogs.
Anyone want to sponsor that ?
See yall soon.

Dialup struggles

I managed to update the web site today. It was quiet the struggle, having to use dial-up instead of ... anything else.
Ive not had a chance to post about the trip because of a lack of internet connections.
Last year there was this nice little coffee shop nearby with free wifi, its gone out of business and there's a national chain pizza place there now.
But I will try to keep the site updated as well as i can.
We are staying at a campground where Davy Crocket was born. Its a really nice place.
I do have a couple classified ads posted, send more in :)
See yall in a few days
