Whats on yer mind?

  1. This is off topic but I am not sure what venue I can vent. Tonight, and every night I see many juveniles riding bikes all over the city with absolutly no supervision, some all the way from 8 years to 15 and up. They come at all times of the day AND night. I see them out when the weather is bad, lightning, rain ect.....As a grandparent and a lover of all children, I stopped five of them to remind them the weather was getting bad and they should probably head home. It was dark, totally dark,( no lights or reflectors on their bikes) I explained to them the weather was supposed to be getting bad. I asked them if their parents had called them to tell them about the weather. All I got from them is..... "she don't care". I explained to them that lightning could be very deadly, and they should hurry home. As I drove off they sat in the street, talking in a circle.
I have come to realize that each generation gets further and further from family life as most of us knew it. Mind you, not all families are like this but too many to count are. Juvenile boys out all hours of the night, on bikes with no lights dodging in and out of traffic. Yet if you hit one of them, YOU are the one that will live with the knowlege you hurt a child. When are parents going to take charge and start parenting? Out of sight out of mind is how many parents try to parent. I know there has to be some kind of ordinance or law about riding a bike in the dark on the city streets.....if not there should be. When listening to the scanner at night I hear all the time on the scanner where juveniles are causing problems with bikes and skateboards at business, churches, and schools and private properties. Isn't that why the city spent so much money on the skate and bike park? To give them some place to ride? Instead, they continue to violate citizens property's. Please don't say I am "picking" on the children. While I do think some of these kids are good kids, they NEED parenting!!! PARENTS!!!! WHERE ARE YOU????????

  2. I thought you might know the laws that govern media. Is a blog under the same laws as a newspaper or magazine? If someone is libeled on a blog, is the blog owner viable?

  3. dont know about VIABLE
but ... no. its basic freedom of speech.
    LIABLE.
someone must be holding a grudge. its been pretty quiet on here lately.

  4. Have you heard any plans for the old football field?
Maybe it should be the site of a new City operations center. Then close down all those other facilities throughout the city and turn them/sell them back to private sector individuals/businesses! (Except of course the sewer, water and FD).

    And

Put them on the tax rolls!

    But please no ACI!

    Just a thought!

  5. How about libel? Which is what I was asking.

  6. Old football field and area surrounding it will be the new water treatment plant, already in the works. I think around 6 million dollars, maybe more.

  7. That's too broad. It depends if it is something the blog owner republished (something someone else wrote) or if he originated it, and lots of other things.

For some reason the phrase "maliciously false" comes to mind - though I'm not sure where I heard that.

Take the time you took to post here, and do a quick search using 'blog' and 'libel.'(or viable, whichever)

  8. Since I rarely delete a post, it would be very hard to prove any malicious intent.
Bloggers who moderate posts are more liable, because if you moderate, you imply that you agree with what you allow.
Still, it would be very hard to prove, even if true.

  9. I happened to be at Paris Park Monday night. A local church is serving free hotdogs on Monday evening during the summer. There were nearly 20 young people from the skate park that stopped by for hotdogs. I was very impressed with their manners, and their behavior while at the park. They all said please and thank you, and not once did I hear any of them cussing or speaking inappropriately. They also cleaned up after themselves, which is more than I can say of some of the adults who were there. Wherever their parents are, they should be proud of the young men I witnessed Monday night.

  10. To the first poster: Yes, there are laws governing bikes after dark. It is illegal to ride after dark without a headlight, taillight and reflectors. But, do the cops do anything about it? No.

  11. @ 10:40pm I imagine they were nice to you since you were giving them something to eat for free. Now, ask them to leave your property when they are on it ramping and railing and see how much respect you get from them.....They are not ALL polite and proper. Especially if you have to ask them more than once. But thanks for sharing your view on ALL of them.

  12. I'm pretty sure that when they said "all", they were saying all in the group they observed at the park, not ALL kids in town.

  13. my rant is why no mention in paper or anywhere about an incedent that happened sunday am that just about scared a lady to death in n.w. part of town guy broke in her house and hid from cops after they were chasing him all over the area. wonder how much news is not reported. now she has to pay for the window and go to court to say she didn't let him into her house. she is pretty shook up. d.

  14. @4:12pm
Yes, my mention that ALL of them were polite was in reference to the kids at the park. And, I am not naive. They are young teens, I am sure they can be vulgar, and have attitude, but they didn't at the park, and my interactions with many of them has been positive in the past. I do not know any of them personally, and will take your word for the behavior you have noted, but often, i have found that you must give respect in order to get respect. If you feel up front that these kids are no good thugs, thats how you are going to act towards them, and thats how you are going to perceive their actions toward you. I'm just saying. These kids are so often scapegoated, and looked at with disdain, that I wanted to share something positive for once. If you take the time to talk to them, and ask them politely to get off your lawn and they don't, call the cops.

  15. @10:44p.m. "wonder how much news is not reported." that's a no brainer. They either didn't get a call telling them where the "news" was. OR, someone they know personally was involved. Think that's something? Listen, I heard of a person who was a VICTIM of a crime and ACPD sent Brand x the "notes" and those f00Ls printed it. When the VICTIM called them on it, they said something about "freedom of speech" or something. sheesh!

  16. Does brand x do any reporting outside of 9 to 5? If it is not laid in their lap they would not have a clue.

  18. This 8 wonders of KS thing:
Is obviously a play on the wonders of the world, but it's the 7 wonders of the world? Where did this 8 come from?

Also - how lame that these alleged wonders can't rest on their own merits. The local CC and media has to pump their own locals to vote (multiple times) to try and get the strip museum elected.

Also-also - Isn't the land rush more an OK history thing? I know there are strip museums in Enid, Perry and Guthrie. Yeah, it started here, but the pilgrims didn't start in plymouth rock.

Also - too, the CC is surely more interested in the possible tourism money than an accurate representation of KS history. Boooo...
