Tempest in a tea party

Here is a good story about the Tea Party versus NAACP and the little skirmish this week.
Its a pretty good story, not really slanted to either side
Looks like they both were a bit on the race card playing game this week.

  1. If there is a leader of the Tea Party movement, Mark Williams is it. This is a letter he wrote that has stirred up all the controversy.

Tell me this isn't racist, and tell me again how liberals have infiltrated the movement to make it appear racist?

    "Dear Mr. Lincoln

We Coloreds have taken a vote and decided that we don’t cotton to that whole emancipation thing. Freedom means having to work for real, think for ourselves, and take consequences along with the rewards. That is just far too much to ask of us Colored People and we demand that it stop!

In fact we held a big meeting and took a vote in Kansas City this week. We voted to condemn a political revival of that old abolitionist spirit called the ‘tea party movement’.

The tea party position to "end the bailouts" for example is just silly. Bailouts are just big money welfare and isn’t that what we want all Coloreds to strive for? What kind of racist would want to end big money welfare? What they need to do is start handing the bail outs directly to us coloreds! Of course, the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People is the only responsible party that should be granted the right to disperse the funds.

And the ridiculous idea of "reduce[ing] the size and intrusiveness of government." What kind of massa would ever not want to control my life? As Coloreds we must have somebody care for us otherwise we would be on our own, have to think for ourselves and make decisions!

The racist tea parties also demand that the government "stop the out of control spending." Again, they directly target coloreds. That means we Coloreds would have to compete for jobs like everybody else and that is just not right.

Perhaps the most racist point of all in the tea parties is their demand that government "stop raising our taxes." That is outrageous! How will we coloreds ever get a wide screen TV in every room if non-coloreds get to keep what they earn? Totally racist! The tea party expects coloreds to be productive members of society?

Mr. Lincoln, you were the greatest racist ever. We had a great gig. Three squares, room and board, all our decisions made by the massa in the house. Please repeal the 13th and 14th Amendments and let us get back to where we belong.

    Sincerely

Precious Ben Jealous, Tom’s Nephew NAACP Head Colored Person"

  3. You only have to hit the post button once dumas.

IF there is a leader?? There isn't! I had never heard of Mark Williams until just now, but I have been a tea party supporter for the last year and a half or more. When are you going to get that it is about less government, less taxes, and more freedom, and has nothing.. I REPEAT.. NOTHING to do with race.

I look your allegations up and found this from this Mark Williams guy who I had never heard of: "I learned this morning that Ben Jealous, author of the NAACP anti-tea party resolution has offered something of an olive branch and will open discussions with tea partiers regarding dialing down the unproductive shots going back and forth ... Following what I believe to be a sincere move by Mr. Jealous I recognize that I have a responsibility to act in kind (just as I did in response to the NAACP's anti-tea party resolution and what was said about us) and that the continued controversy over this post can only dectract from the discussions."

Williams writes that he removed the post as "a reciprocal gesture" to Jealous. He also expresses some contrition over the rhetoric he admits "many very sober and thoughtful people" told him was "an obstacle to progress":

The day that I cannot learn something new will be the one following the coroner's signature on my death certificate and this is not that day. So, with that I reiterate what I and every tea partier have said repeatedly: We denounce racists and any who seek to divide the American People along any lines."

You can't handle the fact that the tea party is a true grassroots movement, and that your precious democrats will be out of a job come November, and your messiah will be a one term loser like Jimmy Carter, so you have to dig and dig until you find something bad to say about someone who is a tea party supporter. Someone who has already admitted to making a mistake and apologized for it. Shall we start a list of all the mistakes the dems have made over the last few years? I didn't think so.
Man, this was a long post. I could sure use a massage.

  5. Methinks thou doth protest too much. Way too much. The only way to see racism in the tea party is to go to a rally. Is everyone in attendance racist? Of course not. Are there racist factions and hate speech swirling about? Oh, yeah. This cannot be denied and if you've been to a rally and deny any racism exists, then you are just plain in denial.

What about the Tea Party movement being grass roots can't I handle? Of course it is a "grass roots" movement, much like the KKK was a grass roots movement. Are you saying it is grass roots, so it can't be racist? That's just insane. Also, I voted for Obama. First time I voted Democratic in my life. I have not seen the change he promised, and can't really see myself voting for him again. I agree with most of the tenents of the Tea Party movement, but; I also see the movement as somewhat racist, and until the leaders of the movement decry it, I cannot side with them. And YES, although you deny it, there are leaders...

  7. @1:20
Couldn't agree more. It was my first time voting Dem as well - I could not take McCain/Palin for 4 yrs. Will I vote Dem again? Maybe, maybe not. I don't think Obama is a messiah, nor does anyone I know. Just the lesser of two evils.
Baggers cannot fathom that people might simply not like them or their tactics. Hey baggers - we DO get it. We CAN handle it. We just don't agree. It happens.

  9. Mark Williams, the tea party leader who wrote a blog post this week calling the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) racist, has been "expelled" from the National Tea Party Federation.

I thought the Tea Party was not organized, and had no leaders?

  11. It's interesting that the avid teapotters simply say to anyone who is not equally avid, "You just don't get it."

Anyone besides me wonder why they don't have enough passion to try and sell their ideals instead of simply saying "If I can't get you to lash out against the current POTUS then you are an enemy of the teapotter state."

Whether the bigotry is of race or some other ideology, it is still bigotry. Anything that is opposed to the simplified logic of communicating one's ideals, beliefs or values is a bigot.

And they both mask their own bigotry and attack any thought outside their own distorted paradigm of reality.

  12. Distorted? Call it what you like, but be advised...there's a WHOLE lot of Americans "distorted" these days.

    ReplyDelete
  13. well we are in total agreement there. There certainly are a ton of Americans distorted these days. Too bad they cannot get undistorted anad admit that the nation has been marching in the wrong direction for the past three decades.

On the other hand, the last POTUS who had enough hudspah to challenge the ignorance of separatism boldly spoke the words, "Mr. Gorbachev, tear down those walls."

Even if Obama is a one term President, I hope he remains true to the first - the original wave of folks who showed they were tired of this partisan drivel when they elected a non-politcal speaking candidate who made history as the first African AMerican and the first non-product of a party. Obama has taken the best shots of both the Dems and Reps. He won an election and is transforming government from a piggy bank for the reckless wealthy into an accountable service to the working classes.

If we can move from the cold war with Russia, we certainly can get past the antipathy of decades in the middle east.

He will be the most effective one term president in the history of the nation. Then he can turn it over to the distorted Americans to drive home their separatist agenda.

new motta: USA - do it our way or get out of the country!

Ok, then explain to me why it is necessary to break down the Capitalistic Society that we have today! To then create a Society where are people are equal? (Not rewarded for their choices, efforts or longevity.)
Seems that someone has to go down in status as well as someone rise in status! Don't you think?
But, what if those at the bottom were allowed to be raised in status and not at the expense of anyone else?
Obama's plan to destroy Capitalism and insert a Socialistic society won't work any better than Greece or any other Socialistic Country now in the world!
All it means is that the Government will now decide who gets taken care of and at who's expense! (Regardless of circumstances or efforts!)
    Now, while your contemplating that?
Why does America have to decline in Status?
Why can't countries like Mexico rise on their own efforts! Maybe even with the help of the U.S.?
IMHO, if not stopped Obama and his cohorts will wreck the opportunity of individuals to advance on their own abilities and efforts!
Kill the middle class and force the U.S. into a two tier Society similar to other countries (even of Third World staus).
Like it or not the Government will be placed in the position to decide!

Then don't forget about those Unions - who get to keep their Cadillac Healthcare plans or those in Congress who voted for a separate plan
(they don't get Obamacare) for them and their staffs!

His plan doesn't really sound all that equal does it!

Personally if Obama, Pelosi, Reid and the Super Majority get re-elected?

I'd hand them a FLAG with no Stars on it!

  16. Anybody who thinks that what Obama is doing to this country is a great thing, and that he "is transforming government from a piggy bank for the reckless wealthy into an accountable service to the working classes." is WAY past logic and into the realm of talking gumdrops and dancing candy canes. There is no arguing with crazy people.

Best one term President in history?

    HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH

Best one term President in the last decade? Yes. Worst President ever? ABSOLUTELY!
