Hospital

There will be a ground breaking ceremony at 12:30 p.m., Thursday at the site of the new hospital for Arkansas City.
There was a ground breaking held a few years ago when organizers were close, so this one is being called a re-ground breaking.
It will be held at the site for the replacement faclity, north of the 242nd and 61st roads intersection.
A reception will follow at the hospital.

  1. I agree that we need a new hospital, but I don't agree with the location. I think a hospital should be centrally located within a community. This location makes it difficult for someone who live close to the state line to get to the hospital in a timely manner, even by ambulance.

  2. I think you're right. Which blocks shall we mow down to make room for it? Or should we just level the old hospital and lay off all the doctors for the next 2 years and hope they all come back when it's built?

  3. 2:49 Are you aware of the bypass? Someone by the state line actually could get there quicker than someone on the west side. I've lived in several towns, and this is the only one with a centrally located hospital. Winfield, Topeka, Lawrence (to name a few) all have hospitals near the edge of town.

  7. and the alternative that would not have cost an arm and leg, wasn't in a flood plain, was centrally located is??? We can complain forever but the reality is that after extensive research this location is the best and we should now move past the "I hate the location" battle and be thankful we will have a new facility. Without the new hospital lots of things would have sucked...

  8. The new location would be great if AC was a growing community, but it's not it is dying and slowly turning into a ghost town. If the city commission would have allowed a Lowes here if may have started a growth spurt, but who knows that for sure. The city leaders ruined that possibility.
