Greetings

The wife and I decided to take a quick trip to Texas. Yes, I am in a hotel room with a nice brunette woman.
We should be back in a day or two and ill get back to updating the site an all.
There is city commission next week. Work session is Monday and the regular meeting is Tuesday.
I should have some pictures soon.
We drove through the snow Monday night. Snowing hard in Dallas, was something they dont see too often here.
Now we are in San Antonio. Ill try to get some more pictures posted tomorrow.
We saw the Alamo and the river walk today.
not sure whats up tomorrow.
Ill let you know if anything develops down here.

This is usually about the deadest week of the year in AC. Anything interesting going on?
What do you think were the top stories of the year for AC?

  1. Good for you! For deleting that whole post and string of responses which doesn't need any further reference - Moving Forward!

  2. One of the top ten stories - Traveler editor gets fired for plagiarizing local online paper.

  3. The 7:26 post is the foundation of what holds AC back. I believe that is what the anonymous channel cat really thinks is the most significant issue in AC. What a life! What an absolutely simple and trifling life.
Maybe the greatest story for that person is some insult or series of insults they posted on the blog anonymously to get a rise out of someone else. What a life. What an absolutely simple and trifling life!

Why is our growth limited. Because the limits are already defined for the bottom of the barrel.

  4. 7:26, Boy I hope your not married, your nagging would be really hard to live with.

  5. 8;28, and 8;31 , pratice what you preach , you judging him/her is no different than this person judging JJ ,just because you did it in defense of JJ does not make it right, and thats a fact, maybe that is a top story for him its not for you or me to decide what that persons opinion is.

  6. I'm staying out of that argument. That's a lose/lose situation no matter how you look at it!

  7. There has to be a little truth in what the man was saying about jj , not all, but I am sure, some .That is my opinion nothing more.

  8. To 8:53, I am 8:31, maybe your right, I need to "pratice"(sp)..lol what I preach. I don't know anyone that wants to be married to a nagging whinner. So I will be very careful not to find one. Thank you for bringing that to my attention Ghandi.

  10. jj, glad you pulled that silly thread down. posting your in-law's letter didn't help you. i guess i'm from a different school. however, your openness & naivete is to be commended. i'm not judging you. now, you even got people wondering about you. people are basically looking for something rotten and you just gave it to them, unasked. just sayin...

  11. Back to the question What's the biggest story of 09, well there are so many Layoff's here in Kansas, how about sending our governor to Washington and getting a new governor, or maybe the fact that our state elected offically passed a law that makes it illegal to drive in the left lane.
One of the news had their top 10 list of stories for the year sending Justin Thurber to death row was their #10 in the list.
Lots lots to think about as we had into "10"

  12. I wish just once these would follow a pattern, JJ you should have a whatever you want thread, and then when they go off subject move their comments to the the whatever thread. That way we can really have conversation.

  13. I think one of the big stories is the Justin Thurber starting to pay his dues. That one gets my vote.

  15. The question on this post was the big news event of the year. I think there were several, but Thurber would be at the top.
The massive number of people without jobs would rank high up the list.
The new hospital being built finally.
The school spending large chunks of taxpayers' money on improvements that could have waited until economy improved.
The fighting like children in the city commission.
Tyler Juden being killed in the service.
But after reading this blog tonight, I have decided the biggest news is how rude and obnoxious some people are becoming. James, I enjoy your blog, so please keep up the good work.

  16. "The school spending large chunks of taxpayers'...until economy improved.

touche'. just 1 point. I was on the citizen committee that thought it good to do the improvements (or at least ask for the bond issue) remember, at the time, the economy had not cratered. We had no inkling this was coming. If we had, perhaps we would have made different recommendation. oh well, hindsight is always 20/20.

While this is probably a good time to review and reduce short term expenses - it is not a bad time to be spending long term. Like some major infrastructure projects!
The bids on almost all those type projects are coming in well under projections. While material prices may vary so is the price of the labor and amount of profit by the competing contractors. Some of them may be willing to bid just to keep their help and their companies. The school buildings and the new hospital will last well beyond this recession.
While the timing for those projects might seem to be bad judgement at this time. In reality they were planned at maybe one of the best times!
It is often easier to focus on Public projects (supported an paid for by all) than to promote the private sector businesses and industry that support them through jobs and taxes.
But you can't keep piling on the same tax base!

It is really about where you want to go from here today!

  18. "One last - i hope - comment on the string i took down."
@jj, yeah, good idea. let's just move on. too bad you don't feel that way about the other folks around town who are roasted/skewered on here. "too bad" is the pat answer. when you are roasted/skewered by your own hand, you pull it down. remember the furor over certain "false dui" charges a few months ago. did you ever go back & check if the charges were true? were they thrown out? i doubt if you did. i don't blame you for pulling it down. stupid of you to post it anyway IMO. what about others feelings & families because of the goop that gets put on this internet blog train?...... "One last - i hope - comment on the string i took down."

  20. THE END IS NIGH! XENU THE OVERLORD RETURNETH!

    ReplyDelete
  21. From Wikipedia:

Xenu, also Xemu (pronounced /ˈziːnuː/[1][2][3]) was, according to the founder of Scientology and science fiction writer L. Ron Hubbard, the dictator of the "Galactic Confederacy" who, 75 million years ago, brought billions[4][5] of his people to Earth in a DC-8-like spacecraft, stacked them around volcanoes and killed them using hydrogen bombs. Official Scientology dogma holds that the essences of these many people remained, and that they form around people in modern times, causing them spiritual harm.[1][6] Members of the Church of Scientology widely deny or try to hide the Xenu story.

Now where do you suppose people come up with these things?

Then, how do you suppose the underwear bomber is supposed to take care of 70 Virgins if he blows or burns his bolas off!

It's Amazing what people will do or believe when they choose to turn/run away from the real GOD!

    ReplyDelete
  22. MADE YOU LOOK!

What do you mean the "Real" god? Xenu is the real god. The bringer of life to our planet.

As dumb as the Xenu story sounds, at least aliens being the origin of man is more plausible than a supernatural being who has no origin, loves you except when he hates you, and is merciful except when he is constantly killing people.

  23. loves you except when he hates you, and is merciful except when he is constantly killing people.

    That's where you are wrong!
He is the only God! He is the only One who allows you to write/live your own story within his Story!
Regardless of the beginning or ending.
He is the only One who gives you a Choice!
He doesn't make you choose HIM!

  24. Btw: I do have a copy of Dianetics!
You need to do some undercover work on
    L. Ron Hubbard. Seems he liked alcohol and
    pink and gray pills.
Then check out the OT-111 and the R6
    implant.
DC-8's? I wonder how many trips it took to
    transport billions of people?

  25. "He is the only God! He is the only One who allows you to write/live your own story within his Story!"

In other words, you never actually see him, you never actually hear him, and he does not touch your life in any tangible way, either good or bad.

That's a very convenient and well thought out attribute to give to a fake god. Someone had their thinking cap on when they invented god, didn't they!

    ReplyDelete
  26. Why is it that any mention of God brings the crazies out of the woodwork?

  27. In other words, you never actually see him, you never actually hear him, and he does not touch your life in any tangible way, either good or bad.

That is an interesting comment - directed at someone you have never seen or touched or has had any effect on your life in any way!

He lives and reigns in the hearts of mankind!

  29. "That is an interesting comment - directed at someone you have never seen or touched or has had any effect on your life in any way!"

actually, it was directed at a person who wrote a message on a blog. A real person, who actually exists. and they did have an effect on me, be it ever so brief and slight. More than any made up god ever did.

  30. Well you ask about UFO's so here is a excerpt from an article on another website.

Who's your Daddy? The UFO community is trying to say that Aliens created us and they are back to save us from ourselves and help us along our evolution into a greater cosmic community of a New Age. My Bible tells me that God created me and that he alone has made all the provisions through Jesus Christ for reconciliation to the Father. He alone is coming back to save mankind from extinction and self rule by reclaiming creation back to himself. This ties right into the scripture that also introduces the Antichrist.

    I wonder if he's right?

    ReplyDelete
  31. Well, here is the point!
Didn't we just go through a whole era of modern thinking that has us educating our youth to the fact that we are most likely the result of Darwin's theory of evolution? A combination of chemicals that under certain conditions can result in a spontaneous primordial ooze? Which can occur anywhere in the universe?
But, then someone broke the genetic code which has others looking at intelligent design.
Now are they thinking we are a product of Aliens?

It's only been, what, 2000 years??? What's the hold up? I'll tell you... the bible is fiction. Just like Dianetics, and nostradamus, etc etc.

  33. Luke 17: 20-25

Once having been asked by the Pharisees when the kingdom of God would come, Jesus replied, "The Kingdom of God does not come with your careful observation, nor will people say. Here it is, or There it is, because the Kingdom of God is within you."
"The time is coming when you will long to see one of the days of the SON of Man, but you will not see it. Men will tell you There he is, or Here he is! Do not go running after them. For the Son of Man in his day will be like lightning, which flashes and lights up the sky from one end to the other. But first he must suffer many things and be rejected by this generation."
