Smoker in chief

The prez had his annual checkup, and was pronounced in fine health. The doc said he needs to quit smoking.

Here is a link to an AP story

and to another story from cbs

As one addicted, I think I can speak to this. The prez says he only lights up occasionally and continues to use nicotine replacement therapy - nicotine gum.
From experience, I don't think people can really be "occasional" smokers. You're either a tobacco junkie or you are not. The prez is in denial, and that's not a river in Egypt.
It is a very strong drug. and very addictive. I dont think ive ever met anyone who honestly only smoked once in awhile except for a couple people who puffed on a cigar once a year or so.
The story goes in to great detail about his checkup, as they always do. Do you really want to know that much about the exam?

  4. I know a few people that only smoke when they drink alcohol. If they do that only once a week I don't think that makes them a nicotine junkie, but I don't understand why they even want to smoke at all..

  6. I was kinda surprised that no one wanted to talk about the coffee party, as per the previous post.

  7. So, you got any info on the firing of the hospital CEO?
Seems a little odd so close to the end of her contract?
Then so many no comments by the board memebers?
Me thinks there was a major disagreement!
But on what and who was right? Wrong?

  11. Sheesh does it really matter if the President smokes? I bet he eats bacon fat by the loads, are we going to debate his eating habits as well? Just because we elected him doesn't mean we own him. Get a life!

  12. How much does smoking cost the healthcare system every year?

Answer: 73 BILLION dollars per year?

The POTUS should be a role model to our children, not teaching them bad habits.

  13. Ya your right sg, but bad diets AND/OR obesity has outpaced illness and diseased from cigarettes.

  14. Perhaps, the parent(s) should be role models themselves. The President should not be the scape goat for all mankind.
I don't smoke... but I'm not going to ramble on and on about his smoking. I don't drink.... I battle my weight... but, then... I'm sure you could say a lot about overeating.
Mankind's greed has gotten this country in a 'ringer'.... no one person is to blame.

  15. I left the 3/4 3:20 comment and I am not pointing fingers at anyone, I was simply stating some facts. I have battled my weight also since I was a teenager and 11 years ago I lost a little over 100 pounds which was a little too much for me and gained 20 lbs back and find I can maintain my weight now through plenty of exercise. Still a battle though. My point is, is that society condems us if we're fat or a cigarette smoker and that is something I am sick of. So you're right. People should take a good hard look in the mirror and stop pointing fingers.

  16. Come on. You're telling me that the POTUS should not be a role model to young people? Why then does every parent tell their kids "You can grow up to be anything your want, even the President of the United States!"

He is a role model, and should not be setting bad examples.

  17. Maybe sg needs to take a good look in the mirror and quit acting like he is perfect

  18. I looked in the mirror like you suggested, and just as I thought... I'm perfect.

Okay, not really, but I have no vices such as smoking, drinking, drugs, etc, AND I don't pass bad habits on to my children. Perfect? No. But good enough for me and mine.

  19. clap, clap, clap.... pat yourself on the back sg...
I know of many parents that have never smoked, drank, or used drugs in front of their children.
    (applause)
Perhaps, you're the perfect role model... and maybe not. But take a look at the tv role models that our youngsters have.
    Politicians, Actors, Actresses, Athletes.....
role models yes! Good role models, maybe-maybe
    not!

  20. In front of the children or anywhere else.

Morals have continually gone downhill for many generations. Things that are acceptable today were not many years ago.
