Taking a break on politics

Here are two articles that I like a lot. A couple of readers have complained about all the politics. But My whole point in all that was to show the futility of right versus left.
So I have gotten tired of it too. This will be my last post on politics for awhile.
Here is an article by a college professor about "big Government" and how it takes away your freedom ... or maybe it doesn't.

Here is an editorial about the rage over obama-care, and what the rage is really all about.

Have at it, but they are both long articles and should be interesting to people who want to actually think about issues.

  1. I agree that politics is getting old! That is exactly what they are banking on - that people will become passive and inactive!
Then there will be the diversions away from the actual points of conflict! To slowly and surely get you to accept their policy.

    Because they Know Best!

It's YOUR MONEY, YOUR LIFE, AND YOUR FUTURE!

    and

IT'S ONLY YOU THAT CAN LET SOMEONE ELSE CONTROL OR TELL YOU HOW TO LIVE IT!

IT WAS A GIFT GIVEN ONLY UNTO YOU!

  2. I saw a poll today that said 50% of the American people are opposed to the changes passed with the new health care bill. Really? I consider myself to be well educated, and I try to keep myself well informed, and I couldn't begin to tell you what this new bill contains. 50% opposed? For what reason? Is it just to be opposed? I doubt 50% of Americans could tell you who their State Representative is, I do not believe they can tell you what is contained in the health care bill.

Yeah, no...I look at the Eagle, my TV, online and listen to the radio and I don't see anyone becoming passive. I just don't think this blog was meant to obe a sounding board for "us against you." I thought his main niche was local happenings. That's why I visit. If you want to spout your politics, and I do as well from time to time, there are literally thousands of places to do it, and more popping up every day. "Passive"...sheesh.

  7. Yeah you will have a choice to carry health insurance or not. Just like if you don't have car insurance, you will be fined when you get caught without it.

Well you have a good point!

  16. Now Obama is taking over the Student Loan business as well. That will put private loan businesses out of work. What's next? What can the government take from the private sector next to bring about socialism faster? You can bet they are working on it.

  17. today the govenment take over of the viagra company was no supprise to many passive democrats, Obama explains the government needs more power to give the people what they need.

While many side line Republicans have seen the stiff arm of the government in action with Biden explaining that this is a big phuqing Deal in the ear of a less than impotent Obama

Many at the tea party wonder if this rectal insertion will be noticed by the American public after so many years of taking it up the caboose.

  25. From a Motley Fool Article:

But with its $1.25 trillion mission nearly completed, the Fed will cease buying mortgage-backed securities tomorrow, March 31. The big question is what impact that'll have on housing going forward.

The honest answer is that no one really knows. Measuring the impact the purchases had in the first place is imprecise at best, and pondering life once they stop is even more so.

There are some reasonable assumptions, though, so we'll work from there.

    Stimulus on steroids
First, how big is $1.25 trillion? Really freakin' big is the right answer, but in perspective:

•The value of all U.S. mortgages is roughly $12 trillion.
•Fannie and Freddie own or guarantee more than $5 trillion of mortgages.
•The value of all mortgage-related securities issuance in 2008 was $1.3 trillion.
•For $1.25 trillion, you could buy all of Coca-Cola (NYSE: KO), Boeing (NYSE: BA), Apple (NYSE: AAPL) and ExxonMobil (NYSE: XOM) and still have enough left over to write a check for $1,820 to every man, woman, and child in America.

    --------------------------------

They are working to reslove how to keep Companies that are TOO BIG TO FAIL from impacting the whole economy. Like what happened with the Auto Ind. and Banks!

But what do you do with a Government that has gotten too big to FAIL?

Their answer - MAKE IT BIGGER!

  26. @9:03 The writer has a point. We're flying blind. Spending our way into oblivion. One would think Democrat or Republican alike could read that & understand. (Though neither one seems to be able to do that) Looks like the pied piper is alive & well...

  31. You know something, you people on the left have some very good points. I have spent the last couple of days just contemplating the world and my place in it, and I have seen that you do have the right idea on quite a few things. I am turning over a new leaf.

First of all, you'll be glad to know that I dropped off all my guns at the police station this afternoon, but not before I disabled them with my grinder. I just wanted them to know that when they finally get around to confiscating every gun in the hands of private citizens, (as they should, because I realize now that it's guns that cause crime, not the people who use them) they can skip my house. Then, I went and signed up for welfare. I had to quit my job in order to qualify, but that is a small price to pay for freedom. I can now take Mrs. Pelosi's advice and become an artist or something without having to worry about where my healthcare is going to come from.

    I feel so free.

Tomorrow I plan to go volunteer at the closest abortion clinic because I hear they need all the help they can get. I am working on a speech to give to expecting mothers about why their lives are more important than the baby... oops, I mean the "lump of tissue" (whew. I gotta work on that... don't say "Baby".. don't say "Baby") inside them.

YES WE CAN! YES WE CAN!

Man, what was I thinking before?? The Constitution? Bah! That thing is so outdated. It is a living document after all, and needs to be brought into the 21st century.

  35. From another good Motley Fool article about the Lehman Bros. bankruptcy!

Lehman's demise -- the largest bankruptcy in history.

The depth of analysis in this report is mind-blowing. Consider this quote from the introduction: "The available universe of Lehman email and other electronically stored documents is estimated at three petabytes of data -- roughly the equivalent of 350 billion pages." From this heap, "the Examiner collected in excess of five million documents, estimated to comprise more than 40,000,000 pages.

Now you just wait! They will start writing bills in Congress that have petabytes of material!
Just think of the jobs they would create printing and carrying all those documents around from floor to floor!

But it is a good article about how out of control those Banks were/are still?

  36. From CNN:

Before discussing the merits of the law, Obama took a swipe at political opponents who predicted a catastrophe if it was enacted.

Over the past year, "there has been plenty of fear-mongering and overheated rhetoric" about the health care law, Obama said. Now, "those same folks are still shouting about how the world will end because we passed this bill. ... They say it's the end of freedom as we know it."

"So after I signed the bill, I looked up to see if there were any asteroids headed our way. I looked at the ground to see if cracks had opened up in the earth. It turned out to be a pretty nice day. ... Nobody had pulled the plug on Granny. Nobody was being dragged away to be forced into some government plan."

Obama also dismissed polls showing the country's continued sharp divide on the issue.

"It's only been a week" since the bill was signed into law, he said. "Before we find out if people like health care reform, we should wait to see what happens when we actually put it into place. Just a thought."

No, probably no asteroids or earthquakes!
Just a huge pile of debt that will eventually suck the life blood out of the Country!
Then, maybe like Greece, they will just have to decide what they (Government) can provide and what MUST be denied!

    Just a thought!

I wouldn't say he isn't interested. Just because he hasn't acted yet doesn't mean he doesn't want to. I think he just has too much going on to start that fight right now. He is on record as being very anti second amendment. And, Eric Holder is one of the worst anti-gun people out there. You can bet he has been trying to get something done while they are in power.

It blows my mind that there are groups out there picketing Obama because he is not liberal enough. He is the most liberal, most radical, President in the history of this country, but to some he's not radical enough. Those people want complete government takeover. Crazy.

  40. @Anonymous April 1, 2010 10:47 PM,

I realize that SBA loans are normal channels.
My point is, these are already established business. These loans will do nothing to grow jobs or stimulate the economy. If they could not get a loan in the private sector, maybe they should not have gotten a loan. It is what got us into this mess in the first place. If you are a good risk get a loan. If not, close your doors.
Don't use stimulus money to prop up a business that perhaps should not be propped up.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Interesting article on SBA loan guarantees.
It compares these loand to "Payday" loans.
They are issued to business that are struggling, in an attempt to keep their doors open.

If they default, they are guaranteed 100% by the Fed. Gov't.

  42. @12:26 Thx. This "stimulus" mess is going to come back to bite us all. Pres. Bush started this & Pres. Obama finished it. These stimulus dollars simply allowed us to put off some very hard economic decisions. But, sooner or later these decisions will have to be made. It's insane: How can you borrow your way to financial security? Or as Vice-Pres Biden says; "we going to have to spend our way out of this recession". It will be time to push the "reset" button on the federal & state economies soon. The way we did things 10-20 years ago will not work any longer. The free money days are just about gone. I hate to see people without, but, we're about to see it, in spades.

Here's Wikipedias overall assessment of the proposal for a "Fair Tax" system. This is in effect a plan to levy a National Sales Tax!
Proponents say it would be a more effective way to spread the tax over the population and would give the U.S. advantages which would attract business to the U.S.!
Best of all you would get to keep all your income from wages W/O any pre-deductions!
It would abolish the IRS and change the Power Base away from those Kings and Queens in Washington!
