Updates

Some new cop notes are posted.
Also, we started the new gardening column yesterday. It is that time of year when people who garden start to get crazy ... er, busy.
She will be writing something at least once a week, and we will try to get useful information up there for gardening.
City commission work session is this week. There are some things going on a city hall that could get interesting.
Ill keep you all posted.

I am wondering what you all want to talk about. Im feeling like the health care thing is beaten to death. No one is going to change his or her mind, and all the politicians are just politicking - so nothing positive will probably happen out of that. It just seems like both sides are just posturing - no matter what happens - their only goal is to spin it their way.
politics as usual at the capitol. There's no change we can believe in - but even if he really tried, the other side would do all they could to prevent it. Its not any different than when Bush was in power. Whatever he did, the dems were all over themselves attacking ... now whatever Obama does - the pubs are all over themselves attacking. Nothing at all has changed since Obama came into power- just the players have switched roles.

  1. JJ,

I think the change we can believe in has to start inside us!
You can't expect the people in the Whitehouse or Congress to dictate policy that applies to "everyone" and not have it be Socailistic in nature!
We have a diverse Society with a totally different Goegraphic/Demographic pattern in the States/areas of our Country!
Congress is only representative of the States!
If there is one thing they have shown us?
Its that they don't have any real answers!
Obama, Biden, Pelosi, Reid etc. only want to lead by examples they have seen somewhere else!
Those examples don't apply to US.
    AND
The Republicans aren't doing any better on their side!

The change that has to come starts in the Heart!
That might mean "tough love" for some and responsibility for others! It might mean giving up some of what you have -if you have way more than you need. Give it to a Church or Charity!
It means only borrowing what you can afford to pay back!
    It means raising your children!
It means helping those who have no parents!
It means caring for the elderly
It means calling divorce a Sin!
    It means call Abortion Murder!

  4. Once in a while you find someone who is willing to tell more of the Story than Washington or the Politicians.

    From Jubak's Journal Today:

And even the IMF gross debt numbers don't capture the full extent of the fiscal lie in the United States. A recent study pegs unfunded pension liabilities for the 50 states at somewhere between $1 trillion and $3 trillion, depending on the rate of return states will get on their pension investments over the next decade. And then there are all those off-budget liabilities such as Social Security and Medicare. These promises of future spending aren't included in budget calculations, because they're "covered" by special trust funds with a source of revenue that is, supposedly, independent of general government revenue.

No politician in Washington wants to come up with a realistic estimate of the problem, because that number would make it immediately clear that the dimension of the problem makes all the proposed "fixes" laughably inadequate.

    -------------------
Its probably not the end of the world! But if we don't view things realistically the next round of bailouts is really going to HURT!

  5. @3:30 p.m. Well said. Scary when you stop & think about it. --"...all those off-budget liabilities such as Social Security and Medicare,"---Let's not even get started on Medicaid, SCHIP, Welfare, etc., etc., and the hundreds of thousands of human souls languishing away in our prisons. All of this worthy of thoughtful consideration, no matter which side of the aisle you choose.

  6. 'there are some things going on at city hall that could get interesting'

What a joke!! NOTHING will ever change 'at city hall' because everything they do is EXCEPTIONAL. Some of the hardest working, most honest and self sacrificing people ever gathered into one place.
