New Braums on the way

Here is a piece of breaking news.
According to city commissioner Mell Kuhn, a new Braums is coming to Arkansas City.
Tales of a new Braums were around a couple years ago, but Kuhn says this is a done deal.
I don't have confirmation from Braums, but I do have it from more than one commissioner.
The new Braums will be in front of the hospital, between the hospital and Summit.
Part of it is a vacant lot now, and there were some other properties purchased for the project.
Kuhn said the project could start "immediately."
The new Braums will have a drive-thru in addition to an expanded restaurant. There will also be an expanded grocery store involved.

  1. Oh NO YOU DON'T!! I don't think this city can support a Braums of that magnitude! Surely it will put the downtown stores out of business. I WILL NOT ALLOW IT! You people that want a Braums are ruining this city. I will have to get a lawyer from Kansas City and fight this tooth and nail. TOOTH AND NAIL!

  2. Thanks for the laugh. Afterwards, you can deny being against it!

  3. Competition is good.
Replacing an old Braums with a new Braums is not the same as a new business coming to town.
Sarcasm has its place at times though, it was worth a chuckle.
Now it will be even closer to my house. :)
We had this before the Traveler did. Maybe I should celebrate by going to Braums.

I heard someone say they thought a Penny Power type periodical would work locally. I wonder if that could be worked into a hard copy weekly paper.
BTW: I read your old bosses editorial last night about the future of small town papers.
I know that Eldoardo has downsized its paper size and number of pages and stopped Saturday.
I have to wonder if you couldn't get some pretty competitive pricing from those presses.
The future is probably going to force more specialization just about like everything else -
you can go where you want or need to get the type information you want but "one site won't fit all"!

  8. I'm glad you realized I was being sarcastic, but really, how does Lowe's VS Bryant's or Midwest differ any from Braum's VS Graves soda fountain? And Kuhn seems all for this.

Maybe because his friends and his business won't have to compete this time?

  9. Graves has a soda fountain? I thought they only had greeting cards and bunion pads.

  11. No dairy purchases. But to be able to drive through and order a cheeseburger and cherry limeade....whooooooooo... We had this when we lived in OK. Your car 'just turns into' the Braum's Drive-thru! LOL I hope it happens though.

  13. Oh you must be thinking of Wendys.

  14. No, I like my burgers more on the 'done' side than Wendy's cooks them! Bleecchh.

  15. Dear anonymous said May 5 - 10:16 & 3:21

10:16 There is a difference that’s being ignored or you are ignorant of; Braums has asked for nothing, in fact they paid fair market value. Unlike yourself, who wants to be anonymous and play for free!

3:21 What kind of stupid and uniformed remark was this? I would have made plenty of money off a new Lowe’s, and they have plenty of money, therefore they can pay there own way like every other retail entity, get it?

  16. I don't believe that was the point, Einstein. And I seriously doubt you have enough integrity to sway anyone. Don't wait by the phone.
