  1. Adam should have won on American idol and not Chris. I know singers at the local high schools that are better than Chris. Adam will be a star for a long time.

  2. Any one else here having receipts checked at the door of Wally world, just because something doesn't fit in a bag? I mean, who can fit an 18 pound bag of cat food in a sack?

  3. Jamie, yes I got checked for a couple big things lately. Not sure why.

  5. I refuse to shop at walmart, so, no...they haven't treated me like that.

  6. Anyone else get the "Spyware Protect 2009" virus lately? They say it can come from porn sites or clicking popups, neither of which I do....so I can't figure out where I got it. If you get it, it's a bear to get rid of. My husband does IT work, and he couldn't get rid of all of it. He says I must have clicked a bad ad. It was on my laptop, which no one else uses, so I would like to know if anyone else has ideas about it.

  7. Last weekend, I bought mulch and checked out in the garden department. An employee was standing guard by the door and I showed him my receipt because I was about to load mulch. The guy counted the number of bags on my receipt and then told me to come back after I was done loading so he could count.

I loaded my mulch and drove off. I figured if he was worried I was going to steal mulch he could come out and load it for me.

You don't have to show your receipt and unless they suspect you of shoplifting they can not detain you for refusing.

  8. One time at walmart they asked to see mine at the door because I had a huge basket full of BAGGED Christmas stuff and two poinsettias that weren't ( I guess they thought I was stealing the flowers)anyways, It pissed me off, So I had this HUGE collection of receipts and I started digging them out of my purse and I was like " Ummm, It might be this one, Orrr this one, No wait this one.. No.. Try this one" I think I gave him about 7 and he got all red faced and I just thought to myself.. If your going to waste my time, I'm going to waste yours!

  9. Great point.
But earlier today, before we left town, i went to Wally World to get some food and drink for the trip.
I had two packs of mountain dew in my cart, and i had been charged for three. I would not have noticed if the gal checking my receipt had not noticed.
Not wanting to defend Wally World at all, but ... it did work out this once.

  10. Wow, lets get mad at people for doing their jobs. If they didn't try to do any loss prevention do you realize how much more they would be out a year in stolen goods. But I guess its ok. MAybe I should come to your homes and take want I want, it would be ok as long as I don't waste your time.

  11. I have a friend who set off the "inventory controll alarm" at Wal-Mart on his way out of the store. The cashire didn't deactivate one of the security strips in something he had bought. The greeter asked him to stop, and he politely refused. He figured he did nothing wrong, and he should not be inconvenienced, or worse yet accused of, or made to prove he hadn't shop lifted. The greeter followed him out to the car, and insisted that he stop. Again my friend refused. At this time, the greeter put his hands on my friend in order to prevent him from getting into his car. my friend explained he did not do anything wron, that he had indeed paid for his items, and if Wal-Mart wanted to accuse him of shop lifting, they had better call the police and report him, but he was going home. At this point, the greeter decided it wasn't worth the confrontation, and let him go.

  12. Well, I didn't say I was mad, but I have been to Walmart alot. I shop for myself and someone else, so I am there usually once a week or more. So I feel they should know me by now. I totally understand that they would want to check big ticket items like tvs or dvd players, but a bag of catfood? Come on. Oh if anyone shops site to store, after you pay in back and get ready to leave, it sets the alarm off.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Yeah, Your moaning about us thinking that they waste our time..... But we've been stopped and asked for our ticket EVEN with a walmart employee taking something to the car for me... It's absurd sometimes. I would expect them to check big ticket items like Jamie said... So 9:47- anger problem much? This is an open thread and people can post comments about walmart without you getting all mad about it. You need to chillax!

  14. Sure hope Doty Smith can read. May 22 Traveler [bad word] letter to the editor Ein Volk Ein Tax. Nicely written, little to polite, but certainly makes her point. I din't see treating our citizens with respect as a commision goal either. But I'm sure Doty didn't mean it that way. Oh Yea.

  15. With her sorry practice as a landlady, I was never surprised at her being a terrible commissioner. Glad I never voted for her.

Dotty did not say that the taxpayers would to pay the past dues as was arrantly and maliciously written by Connie Shier. Watch the replay or ask some one that was there, she said the taxpayers should not have to cover the unpaid bills, get them collected. My my my you are a bunch of ass hats.

Interesting post "Doty" You should ask the Traveler to post a correction and stand in front of the town at the next commission meeting and apologize. [You were quoted in the Traveler]

  19. I really do hate it when I get stopped leaving Wal Mart simply because the person who rang up my stuff didn't do their job and deactivate the loss control circuitry. I have been tempted to just keep walking when they ask me to stop, but I am just too nice. Those poor who work the door have their own crosses to bear IMO.

Besides, they could ban you from the store, and then where would you go? They pretty much have a monopoly.

We need to go after the money, go get it," she said today when asked to clarify her comments last night. "I want it collected. If it's not paid by those who owe it, taxpayers will pay." Smith addressed the commission after a routine meeting during which the five commissioners approved every action item.

Doty promotes that she is better educated than most, so "taxpapyers wil pay" should pretty clear to me. Yes she does need to ask a retraction and apolgize to the public at the next commission meeting. We are lnhng past due for our elected officials and hired admins. to fess up or get out!

  22. I wish the police dispatchers would quit answering questions for the police officers, when they don't know the laws. If anyone ever calls the police station to ask a question, make sure to tell them you want to speak directly to the officer. I was told a very wrong answer the other day.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Good point. Unfortunately, the Officers don't know the right answers half the time either, but at least they can go look it up.. in today's world, why ask them a question at all? Why not look it up yourself? If it's a law question of course. If it is a case specific question, then yeah, you'd have to ask an officer.

  26. Google "kansas annotated statutes". It gives pretty detailed info. It is a bit technical at times but lots of good info.

  27. Everyone should know the laws that govern them and their civil rights. That would help keep those who enforce the laws from being able to overstep their bounds.

When she was your landlady you destroyed her property and didn’t pay your rent that is why you were evicted. So why don't you "rip out" your key board?

  32. Oh gee, wowee, I didn't know a tiny little mark on a floor could make such a big difference on not getting a deposit back. And no, you jerk, it wasn't my rental and they wasn't evicted. She's a slum lord in my book, when she couldn't fix what was needing to be fixed. Hey, so why don't you "rip out" you own board. Oh, bet your her or a delusional family member.
ANYONE THAT RENTS FROM HER, SHOULD TAKE BEFORE AND AFTER PICTURES!

    ReplyDelete
  33. Always take video or pictures before moving into a rental house, and make sure the time/date stamp on your camera is turned on. I have been burned in the past in this town as well by greedy landlords, even though the house was in better shape when I moved out than it was when I moved in. Luckily I don't rent an more, so that's behind me, but take my advice. It could help.

  36. I got a question. I was reading through some statutes out of curiosity and does this really mean what I think? In statute 21-3610 under crimes and punishments it says : "(e) This section shall not apply to the furnishing of cereal malt beverage by a parent or legal guardian to such parent's child or such guardian's ward when such furnishing is permitted and supervised by the child or ward's parent or legal guardian. "

Does that mean parents can legally let their kids drink, if under their supervision and not be prosecuted?????? I hope not. I hope I am misunderstanding this statute.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Yes, that is exactly what it means. What most people don't realize though, is that the term "Cereal Malt Beverage" applies only to 3.2 Grocery store beer, and not liguor store beer (I think it's 6.0) or any liquor at all, such as whiskey, burboun, etc. It also does not apply to your child's friends.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Yes that is what it means. You may allow your own child to drink in your home legally.
But it applies only to your child. I think it must also be in the parent's home.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Thats crazy, thats a law that should be changed!

    ReplyDelete
  40. Thanks sg and jj. I picked up on that about the cereal malt beverage. I agree with the last post, that law should be changed.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Hey does that include those little wine coolers in the store too?

    ReplyDelete
  42. I dunno. Actually I thought it included wine.
But it is a state law, so call Kasha and get her on it. :)

  43. You were right yesterday, tomorrow you'll be wrong..

WICHITA - Listen up, parents: If you think those kids whooping it up in your basement or garage might be drinking, you'd better find out and then break up the bash.

Pleading ignorance is no longer an option.

Starting July 1, adults who allow minors to drink in their homes -- either by providing booze or turning a blind eye to drinking -- could face legal prosecution and fines of $1,000 or more.

"It's great news, and it's about time," said Pam McLucas, an alcohol and drug counselor at the Wichita Children's Home.

"If parents know they're going to be in trouble, maybe those boundaries will get set up pretty quickly."

The new law, passed by the Kansas Legislature this spring, says adults can be held responsible if they "recklessly" allow minors to consume alcohol in their homes or on their property.

Current law holds parents responsible only when police can show they "knowingly" allowed minors to drink.

The new law will be easier to enforce, said Capt. George Mason, spokesman for the Sedgwick County Sheriff's Office.

Officers regularly encounter parties where minors are drinking or drunk and parents appear to be "either clueless or deliberately vague about their knowledge" of it, he said.

Want to test your luck with how ACPD will define
    "knowingly".

    ReplyDelete
  44. That still doesn't affect the above law that allows their minor children to consume cereal malt beverage in their presence. It just applies to drinking parties with other underage kids. Parents can still give their kids beer. It's apples and oranges.

  45. I used to rent from Dotty. She was the best landlord I've ever had by far. I've had others who were good and others who weren't bad but she was the most reasonable kept her place up the best and was good to work with me on anything I needed. She put in central heat and air and only charged an additional $25 a month. She put in new carpet and all fresh paint before I moved in. I did some damage by accident to a floor in one of the rooms and she let me replace it on my own (I hired a pro) and allow me to keep the deposit. She doesn't put up with druggies. She is pretty strict on having pets. She doesn't let you skate on the rent. All of that is pretty reasonable in my book. Renting a priviledge and not a right. I was thankful to have a decent place to live.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Well thankyou for your honest comment. Maybe she used to pick and choose what house she took care of. Lets see, this elderly person wasn't a druggie or had any pets or definitely didn't skate. Didn't tear up the house, minus a mark. Sooooo, lesson learned... take pictures or video before you rent a home.
