Clarification on Rice

Here is a note from Ark City Police Chief Sean Wallace. There was a William Rice arrested for DUI Friday in Ark City. We used to have a police chief named Bill Rice. People wondered. It's not the same person. Here is the note Wallace sent.

The William Rice arrested recently for DUI is not the William “Bill” Rice that was formerly the Chief of Police at Arkansas City. In addition, the William Rice arrested is not related to retired Chief of Police Bill Rice.

  1. Thats not something I've been wondering about, I keep wondering whats wrong with those people that was arrested 3 times already for the same thing pretty much in such a short time. Wowee. Either really stupid or really addicted.(or both??)

  2. hmmm...just think, if you wouldn't print this, then folk wouldn't need to do clarifications. I wonder, if we were Wichita, jj would you still do "cop notes"? just a thought from the masses...

  3. I wonder what others think.
If i didn't, then the rumor mill could roll unchecked, with no way to stop it.
The eagle does some sort of cop report.
The level of detail is one thing that makes small town journalism actually better than big city journalism.
High school kids in Wichita have virtually no chance of getting in the paper for athletics or academics. Here, its common.
So there is good and bad.
    What does everyone think?

  5. Get a good lawyer. Keep delaying your court date for one reason or another.
    Keep appealing.
You could have 5 or more charges pending - or even more - before you ever go to trial. THen you cop a plea, get probation, etc.

  6. Obviously, because if they pulled over someone like Bill Rice, they would surely let them go.

Oh, jj. you're too nice a guy. IDK, but, I seriously doubt the Eagle has EVERY person's name who did a DUI, Domestic Violence, speeding, etc., etc.
Seriously, jj, you don't pretend to call the cop notes "journalism" do you? a quick visit to dictionary.com would answer the question. Let's be BRUTALLY honest: These things just give the nosey ones among us a view of someone who is having a bad day's dirty laundry. Serves no public good. If it did, then the Chicago Tribune, Eagle, S.F. Chronicle, etc. would do it. c'mon jj... think about it. I know some people want this, and the ones who do are the most vocal. Ask some regular working people what they think. Most people that have a life are usually too busy with that life to stick their nose in other's lives unasked.
Again, I don't care what you do with this, I'll still come here, and I'll still be your friend. Just thought your latest snafu was worth mentioning it again. :)
Signed... note from the working people

  9. The Eagle has all crimes listed on its site. Though it does not list names. Most larger city papers do that.

  10. "Though it does not list names."...Exactly what I've been trying to tell you. You're a better man than that jj. BTW, Ponca City doesn't give people's names either. (lists crimes, minus names) For your info.

  11. I can understand not listing a name for sensitive issues, but I don't see anything wrong with other things. I know someone that is not normally a troublemaker but got into a little trouble. The embarrassment of having their name published in the paper was enough to keep that person out of trouble. Their's pros and cons to publishing names obviously.
