starting to get busy/ live blogs

We have a couple of live blogs scheduled, and I hope to schedule more.
When I first started this blog, and site, one of my goals was to get heavily into live blogging. I think I have gotten a bit distracted on that goal, so I am headed back in that direction.
Of course, having the rug pulled out from under us by the city, didn't help either.
We have two currently scheduled with more on the way.
Thursday at 7 p.m., we will have Curt Freeland. He is head of the local habitat for humanity, and they have just started their ninth house in Arkansas City. He was also city manager for many years.
Should be interesting. And you may ask questions as well.
Then, next week, Wednesday, also at 7 p.m., we will have Jerry Campbell, who is with the clean air group that wants a smoking ban in Arkansas City. They would like one for the whole county.
So stop by and take part in the interview.
I am considering others to interview. Send your suggestions here.

  1. Sharing this for two reasons. First and most importantly, it's a chance to help a young person with a special need. Secondly, as you read the story, file away the information concerning the current state of health care in these United States. Someone is already making quality of life decisions and it aint the government:

    Subject: Caleb Seaton

Caleb Seaton is a Ponca City boy who is battling cancer—his uncle works down the hall from us and asked if we would help get the word out about this fundraising event. Caleb is currently attending West Middle School—so he is 12-13…last summer he had a bike wreck and continued to complain about pain in his shin. In January, an x-ray found a “spot”…It was cancer…he is taking chemotherapy and he lost his leg in June. His first request for a new leg has been denied so they are appealing.

Would you please pass this on and help spread the word about this young man…

    Thank you.

  2. I don't think because the government takes over that it's going to automatically pay for everything. If that is written somewhere in the mess of a bill -- let me know.

It's all a political mess. The Dems want to control it and use it as power and the Pubs are doing everything they can to keep the Dems from getting that power. It's not really about health care at all.

  3. While this young man is at the mercy of someone else, I can promise you that it will get worse with the government. I have spent ONE year working to get some heart care for my senior mother. Medicare has guidelines and they have to be followed, more medication prescribed to see if that will work, more tests, more medication, more tests....when all this is exhausted the surgery which is relatively minor and inexpensive will be done. Problem...we will have spent precious time and resources for a problem that could have been fixed last year when it was obvious what the fix was.

This poor youngster is caught in a similar quagmire and his situation illustrates that BEFORE we turn to the government we need to demand changes from the private sector. Adding government to the mix is not going to help but slow the process. Ask the car dealers with the clunker plan, ask people who have tried to navigate through the VA hospitals, look at the post office bottom line...

Let's rally for the young man and for the rest of us stuck with the system and its failure.

  4. BEFORE we turn to the government we need to demand changes from the private sector.
    >>
Those changes will only happen when government passes laws forcing them to change. And then enforces the law fairly.
That is the type of government involvement that I think is reasonable.

  5. I love you ark City but wow! You missed the point twice. First, no one even asked or expressed an interest in how to help. Not a good mark. Then, the other comment is their story underscores that the decisions people concerns being expressed on who gets what treatment are real NOW!!!

That only means (if only for the sake of a 12yr old whose well-being would benefit) something needs to be done. Something! Please?

  6. the boy is 12-13 and still growing, he was denied because prosthesis is the only opetion to replace a leg, you cannot grow a new one.
it would not be practical for an insurrance company to keep purchaseing the boy new legs every three months, untill he is in his early twentites and quit growing.
Futhermore this isnt a failure by government or the insurance company, this is a request from RSVP (The Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) provides adults age 55 and over with an opportunity to use their life experience and skills to improve the communities in which they live through volunteer work at one or more of the RSVP sites or stations in Kay County.) there is a big differance in helping a child get the proper medical care and buying him a cadilac prothesis, while many of our fellow americans die because of lack of basic medical attention
Just my thoughts and i researched this

  7. If you're serious about live blogging, get a wireless card and do it. There is not thing one they can do about it. I recommend KPM.

  8. I am reminded of similar story recounted when a group of folks approached Jesus in their own profound discussion of boy who was born "blind".(John 9:1-3)

With equal consideration for the lad, as was demonstrated in earlier comments, they, too, sought to use the boy to further a political agenda. 'Come on Jesus', they cajoled, 'tell us is the boy's plight because of his sin or his parents sin? Whose fault is it.'

How harsh were they to politicize the plight of an unfortunate soul to argue for their posture.

Even now, as I write those words, it comes to my own enlightenment that I too am wrong for presenting this in such a manner. I pretty much knew the tone of this audience. It was wrong for me to even present it here.

I apologize for that. I will contact the organizers of the fund raiser and do what I feel is right to do. I will also thank God for the folks who care enough to offer a helping hand instead of a political opinion.

The old exchange resonates in my head: "What were you thinking? That's just it. You weren't thinking at all were you?" That's me scolding myself. Good night bloggers.

  9. do what your consious tells you to do Charles.
What i would like to know is why you think it is so Godly to come here and preach your Gospel, you are to lead by example not by attempting to bleed someones compassion into cash for an unseen boy who may or may not be real!
there are tons of scams out there today do you think God will lead you away from these?
And i think it is wrong to quote scripture to create guilt and incite giveing by thouse with less than the supposed boy

Whip out your Check Book CHarles and lets see what kind of leader you are BS or $$

  10. So Charles,

Do they make an adjustable leg (lenght) like you see on the wounded Veterans made of metal with an adjustable socket and stapping for attachment?
Could an aceptable one be made?
Is there someone who could make it?
    What would it cost?

    ReplyDelete
  11. Sorry charles, I did not miss that he needed help and my assumption from your first post was that he needed funds to buy the leg denied by insurance. I also thought from your post that you were thinking the gov would be able to help more...I guess I missed your point. With that said, it in no way means that I will not help. If he has specific needs other than financial than please tell us. Your post had definite political implications which is fine but we were just responding to that. The youngster will get help from some of us...

  12. If the government had denied it you would all be up in arms.
but since it was a money hungry, greedy, profit centered insurance company, denying the claim was the right thing to do.
    hmmm

    ReplyDelete
  13. To 6:54,
Of course it would cost the insurance too much money to buy a leg for the child. That might make a difference in the millions of dollars the CEO of the insurance company might get for his bonus.

    To 9:33,
    You discust me.

  14. I agree with you 4:49, that post is something else. Also, I think Charles is smart enough to figure the difference between a scam or the real thing.

  15. I kinda hope we get the stupid government Health Care so you people can come on and complain and whine about not getting the help you need then. Then who will help you when your precious government denies you? Well still be having the fund raisers!

The government won't solve all your problems!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  16. Charles has a point in being a little disconcerted that no one stepped up to help.
But at the same time, he did politicize it himself in the first place.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Maybe someone did help but didn't politicize it when they did?

    ReplyDelete
  18. To 8:42
If the government ran health care does come about and it does work, what will you have to complain about? I am sure you will find something. If we do nothing where will it get you with the 1500-3000 dollar deductibles, and the 40 dollar copays and the denials because of a previous condition...I tell you what will happen if we do nothing. We will have 100 dollar copays or worse eventually, with 5000 to 9000 dollar deductibles, and denials for contracting certain diseases. If we do nothing to control big insurance, we will eventually have NO affordable healthcare. There won't be anyone to help with the fund raisers because we will all be in the same boat....no affordable healthcare!

  19. IT'S NOT GOING TO WORK!!!!!

How is it even possible? Where will the money come from? Where will all the new Doctors for the 35-40 million uninsured people come from?????? Where will the Canadians go when they really need help?

Rationed care -- that's just a scare tactic - right?

    ReplyDelete
  20. We are supposed to believe that JUST because you say so? The 35-40 million people will be Doctored by doctors we already have, they will have to take less money to see their patients. Just as the insurance companies will have to charge less in order to compete. Simple simple.....they are charging us too much for services! Let the electric company do that and we will hear every one scream like little girls! Even you!
