Respecting the office

What would you do if you had a chance to talk with the president. Or, if you had a chance to ask a question at a town hall meeting?
Would you yell, stomp on the ground, and tell him he is evil? Or would you respectfully ask a hard question?
I just wonder when i hear people. The seem to hate the president, not so much for what he is about, but because he is is a liberal. When Bush was president, it was just the opposite, liberals hated him because he was a conservative.
This is why i am so cynical about politics. The debates should be about ideas, not just how to trip up the other side.
Here is a cynical thought i have: It doesnt matter what is in the health reform package, conservatives will hate it and liberals will love it ... not because of what it says, but because of who is behind it.
If Bush had pushed it ... would it have been any different? I doubt it.
If you are a conservative, would you consider it an honor to get to talk with Obama for 5 minutes? If you are a liberal, would you consider it an honor to talk with Bush for 5 minutes?

Im getting into the web site Politico.com lately.
Here is a link to one of their blogs about the president

  1. Wouldn't it be nice if we could put political names aside long enough to find a solution for health care and other big issues. No matter what party the President is, I would always show upmost respect toward him. I think my biggest question would be is if we find a way to make health care accessable for everyone, how are we going to weed out the lazy bums taking advantage of the system?

"Lazy bums" with lung cancer need treatment also. The question is the who and how to define the human form that does NOT deserve medical care.

  3. At present the insurance companies decide.
Would it be that worse for the government to decice. At least with the government, profit is not the only consideration.

  4. Well I think it was once said that the long term politicians are so busy making deals concessions and protecting their turf. That they loose sight of the their original purpose and goals!

But if I could ask Obama:

I'd ask him what he was doing to promote fair and honest competition in the U.S.?
I'd tell him I don't want to watch competition where the refrees take sides, makes or changes the rules in the middle of the game!
I want them to wear uniforms so I can see whose calling the fouls!
I don't want to see a football game where the Quarterback gets tackled in the backfield at the snap of the ball by a referee. Or an openfield tackle by one to prevent a touchdown.
I don't want to go to a soccer match between the U.S.A. and Mexico in the U.S.A. and have the stands full of fans that root for the oposition while claiming to be U.S. citizens.
I don't want to have to pay for my ticket and concessions and have to watch while others get free passes for choice seats.
I don't want to see more referees than the game requires!

So, Mr. Obama what are you doing to make the game fair so as many as possible can play!

  5. 12:29 pm..Now where did that come from? I not sure if you are being sarcastic or what. I didn't say one word about people with lung cancer not having access. Please don't read into my words what is not there. I am a personal care attendent and have worked with a variety of people on disability or social security, so I know the difference between a person(bum) that takes advantage of the system and people that really need health care but can't afford it.

  6. @ Charles

Careful, you are wading into 'death panel' territory.

    @ JJ

If I could ask the President one question is would be this: Why are you wasting your time negotiating with Republicans who have no desire to reform health care?

    ReplyDelete
  7. The best reform for health care is to get the goverment out.

  8. If big business will not act morally or legally, the government has to get involved.
    Its called law enforcement.
You can't get away with stealing a candy bar at the grocery store, but you can become a CEO and get away with stealing millions in tax payer dollars.
Yet, big business and republicans have convinced people that the candy bar is a crime but the millions taken from tax payers is not.

  9. Far as I can tell, Obama is letting the people have the option of keeping their own insurance and how that is a socialist idea, I really don't see. Charles is right, that it is everything to do with the human factor. I get the feeling that a lot of people in our country don't give 2 cents about other people. Personally, I would rather have my taxes go to helping people get health insurance then going to war with every little country in the world that will be at war with each other til the end of times.

Obama himself has said that IN THE BEGINNING people will be able to keep their private insurance, but down the road he envisions moving to government healthcare. I posted a video of him saying it on this blog the other day.

I kind of like your perspective - but, if you think people went ballistic over healthcare at town hall meetings.
WAIT till you see what happens when they don't have gas for their car!
    We are a shallow breed!

@SG. I guess people just hear what they want to hear and just kind of "mentally" block out what they don't want to hear. I saw that short video. I just bet, almost no one took the time to even watch it. They just don't want to believe that Pres. O. could do or say anything wrong. Or have any misintentions. I want to believe the best too. But, when I hear someone on VIDEOTAPE saying stuff like that, I have to wonder. I mean, no way you could misunderstand what he meant. He just didn't take into account that videos would be circulated around the world of him saying it.

  13. The video was spliced comments from different appearances.
I asked to see the original video, and it has not been produced yet.
You could say his program could lead to other bad things, but you could say that about any program from anyone.
The thing is .... we need reform.
Maybe his program needs a lot of reform itself,
I dont care which side fixes the problem.
Look at the AP story that was posted earlier
    :)

  14. No jj, the video I'm talking about was not the spliced one. Watch the one where he is sitting down being interviewed again, and watch all the way till the end.

  15. Alot of the dems will go on record to say they are for single payer. It will eventually get to that if they get their way.

And I really don't see how that can be taken out of context when you say flat out you favor something.

    ReplyDelete
  16. So, byte daily at 9:33, you think the democrats should just pass the healthcare plan with the single pay option without republican help, no matter what the people of the country want? Is that what I'm getting from your post? If so, you are a true socialist. No, communist would be a better descriptor.
