Joining the revolution

Just an update on things in general. And an invitation to join the revolution.
I will have the latest fishing column up sometime this morning. I am still looking for columnists in other areas. I have started posting Dean Hall's Thinking Like a Therapist column. Im still working on other people, and I have a few other submissions here and there.
Soon I am going to have recipes. A reader is sending them in regularly, and you can send them in too. My wife is going to do a flower gardening column.
I have also received material from the library and have not processed it yet.
If you want to do some writing, get in touch with me.
You may send pictures too.
I have a prize to give to the person who gives the best submission for August. It is a vacuum prize by sponsor Patrick McDonald of McDonalds Vacuum Center.
I am also looking for someone to solicit advertising. That's the only place where you can make a little money now. I cant pay writers yet.
My vision for this site - and blog - is for it to be a community center of discussion and information. It is not a business. It is something that will belong to the community at large.

The health reform thing got people going yesterday. There were lots of comments posted. I have some links on the health page. I want to ad more, so send me more links. I would like to compile as many as possible, on both sides of the health reform issue.

  1. Fired and then given $15K? Where does this money come from? Do you realize how many guns that could buy? If that's a county position, aren't salaries paid for w/ tax dollars?

  2. Here is a link from an article in the UK that talks about rationing:

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/health/251988.stm

That is one reason this all makes me nervous. How do we know this won't happen here?

  3. If you read only one set of health care statistics today, let it be this one.

  4. The argument about health care rationing is misleading. There will always be rationing of health care under any system you can imagine. If it appears to be free, the demand for any good or service will be unlimited. If you have to pay for it, you decide how much you want to consume.

  5. Has anyone ever heard the horror stories of how our Vets (new and old) are treated with their 'government health care' Just an honest question.

    ReplyDelete
  6. I think that's kind of a catch-22. Sorry, Hawks, but if we'd quit pumping all this $$ into "wars", wouldn't we have more to spend on vet health care? Not to mention fewer injured and sick vets? Just an honest question.

  7. Who is Hawks?

    @ Mad Linker
I'm not sure what info you were trying to get out on the link you posted?

  8. Thanks JJ for allowing us this platform to voice our opinions.....all opinions! Again thanks!

    Hawks are defense-lovin Repubs.

If you don't understand (the link) you never will, and I wouldn't be able to explain it to you.

  10. You libs should put out a playbook if you expect everyone to know your insider lingo. Did you hear that one on Rachel Maddow?

  11. Hawks and doves have been used to designate Reps and Dems since the early 60's!!
    *chuckle*

    ReplyDelete
  12. Ya know, now that you put it in that context, I can kinda see that. Hawks are strong and powerful, while doves are weak and used as a symbol by hippies.

    *snort*

  13. Hawks would do anything for a kill and don't care about anything but themselves, doves have a loving and caring nature and think about others. Maybe if the last hawk in office wouldn't of been so worried about spending so much money on war, then maybe the veterns care wouldn't of been ignored.

  14. The dove reference originated in the Bible
The hawk reference comes from Jefferson, who used the term warhawks to apply to those who felt fighting was the only means to an end.
They were first put together in a political context in the early 60's...missle crisis, VietNam conflict, that era.

You showed your intelligence at 9:01, you should probably stop.

  15. Yeah, you liberals want to take everything from the people who earned it and give it to the people who do nothing. Sounds like a "Dove" thing to do to me.

  16. You know, Dove is 1/4 moisturizing cream.

  17. lol. I may need some of that when Obama rams home his healthcare package.

  18. Conservatives love to keep on taking from those that don't have any more to give. Its all good with them, after all a million dollars would only be pocket change to them, because they are stashing their billions in other countries, dodging taxes that only hurts you and I. Now thats said, putting things in a real perspective. Not every conservative is dodging taxes and not every liberal is holding out their hands for a freebie. Unfortunately, someone will always be ripping off the system and the people that are actually trying and/or doing the right thing is lumped into one group with the freeloaders. At least thats what a few of the conservative posters around here are contending in my opinion.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Yeah, you're right... being conservative is all about my billions I have in the bank, and the billions more I have in offshore accounts. I just choose to live here in Ark City because I like to keep a low profile. I cruise Summit in My Lamborghini every Friday night.

Being a conservative means having morals. Believing that babies are babies, and not lumps of tissue. Believing that the Government is supposed to answer to the people, not the other way around. Believing in the right to defend one's family from harm. Believing that people who have spent their lives working hard to leave something to their kids shouldn't be forced to give it to people who would rather sit on the couch instead of going to work.

  20. Poster at 9:34 should thank SG for proving the point!
    What a narrow minded ass.

    ReplyDelete
  21. I would love to talk to you about my views, but all you want to do is call names. Who is more narrow minded?

    ReplyDelete
  22. Namecalling is the last resort of a feeble mind.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Well sg, for some reason you chose to ignore this sentence in my post and chose to rant...

Not every conservative is dodging taxes and not every liberal is holding out their hands for a freebie.

    ReplyDelete
  24. And to add to my comment, I am neither liberal or conservative. I choose to make my own mind up about issues instead of following one party or the other.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Well, 8:09, you do have a point there. I went back and read your post, and I will admit I did gloss over some of it the first time. All I saw was the first part, and then went to write my own post. I am so used to the liberal whiners and their hate speech about how conservatives are all rich and want to keep poor people poor, that I just assumed it would continue in that vein. Yes, I know what happens when you assume things. Now you know what happens when your posts start out in one direction and branch off into another.

Man, I guess this means I'm gonna have to start reading liberals posts all the way through, lest I be called a narrow minded ass again.

Oh, and to the one who likes to call names, you talk so very tough. Maybe you should check your ego before you call people names anonymously. Seems it might need stroking. Go stroke it.

I noticed that too! Not every Dem is pro-abortion, anti-gun, or looking for a handout.

If you're being a total ass, someone - feeble mind or not-is going to call you on it. Re read your post. There was no call for your generalizations. My grandma is a democrat, and if you said those things about her while she was within earshot, she probably would have backhanded you. You said very rude things about some very good citizens.

All to prove your little point. What a big man.

    ReplyDelete
  27. 8:32,

Who said rude things about good people? I never said a word about democrats. I simply said what my idea of a conservative is. If you don't agree, discuss it. That's what these boards are for... discussion. Not hit and run namecalling because there are no consequences.
