More on Kuhn, Wallace and pistols, link is fixed

I got an email from Sean wallace, which has his response to all the events of the day, and the past few days concerning his guns.
There are some interesting observations.
I also added some comments from Mayor Jay Warren to the main story.
I am cleaning up the site a bit, the city page should like nicer and be more up to date now.
have a good weekend everyone.
You may read Wallace's comments here

  6. i have never been a cop but i do know i would want the best equip. i can get. a gun that does not work is not a good thing. i do know about the parts stuff though. it can be a real pain. i do say to the statement about no swat team or don't need lot of fire power just watch the movie 44 minutes. it will change your mind. hope we never have a problem like that but in these changing times i believe it could happen. also since the guns are paid for with drug money what's the problem?????????

  7. Chief Wallace has become an "ex-spirt" at the taxpayers expense [very expensive]. It's time for him to use that resume and move to the big city. I will donate to the bus ticket.... PS, lets add Archer and Massey to that list...

  8. I must agree with the above comment, Wallace is seeling this city on Fear, we now have 43 people on the payroll from that perticular budget, we have three video camers in each police car, the very best top of the line laptops in each car, soft pellet guns at the tune of 28,000 and a continual drain from training and supporting all this, we are a country town of 12,000 people why do we need all this tactical crap,,,, I would rather see our city workers driveing better equipment

That movie is about the North Hollywood bank robbery is not about hand guns it’s bought rifles and our cops have had M-4 carbines for over 2 years, granted they just put them in their patrol cars but thats not my falt. We have fire power.

  13. Whether you like mell or not you miss the point. It is his job as a comm. to help over see dept. budgets. In these rough time that every city in the US is having to try and balance budgets. Cutting money from schools and programs to make sure they are staying afloat. AC just went through all that. He should be asking the questions. He didnt go to Wallace he went to Archer which is what he should do. Just because a weapon is 10 years old doesnt mean it needs to be replaced. The police department doesnt shot enough ammo through them to wear them out. Our millitary uses weapons that are 40+ years old and have shotmany times the ammo that these have and are still in service protecting all of ours freedom. So in my opinion Mell is doing what he thinks is right trying to help keep needless spending down which will keep all of our taxes in check. Need more people to stand up and hold all the city dept. accountable for wasting dollar that they pass on to us.

  14. I see a large problem that is developing, KUDO's for Mr Kuhn if more government leaders paid attention to the real needs of the city, we would not have a 500,000 4 story firetruck to save foundations, I do not see a need for 4 ton amublances, nor do i see a need for 43 police officers.
Who else is looking at this waste of the general fund?

How can we continue to keep funding a police department that thinks it is in New York City??

I have wonder if a drug dog will cure all the problems in our city?

If there was a chance to vote in a poll on drasticly cutting these two budgets, I would vote twice

  15. to 8:14 PM. My compliments to you for your responsible comments. If only the rest of the citizens would look. Draw there own conclusions, but at least look.

  16. I dont know about fire trucks but i do know about mowing lawns and have to wonder why the fire department has a $8000 dollar commercial mower to mow the grass. Now that is a complete waste! How do those things slip past those her are supposed to be in charge. Mel Check that out and hold someone accountable for the total waste of my tax money. Why can't the firemen mow the grass with a $200 dollar push mower?

    ReplyDelete
  17. One thing that I want to make clear; I am not against any department or person, I would like to see thing run differently, for instance, each dept having mowing equipment looks like lack of cohesion. It’s the difference between bottom line accountability and a budget driven system.

Budget driven system needs may show no return and look like protectionism. Bottom line driven systems needs are controlled by the bottom line. The question is can we change or modify the way our municipality runs?

  18. Think I read somewhere in this topic, that "Archer" had not intended for the e-mails to "leak out". Now where have we heard that before, o'yea, can't let the media use our internet connection to report the work session and commission session, as they are happening. How soon are we putting up the metal detectors and bullet proof glass at city hall. Next time to talk to one of our elite, remind them where they came from.

    ReplyDelete
  19. The bottom line is an interesting thought. What is the bottom line on protection? Does it have to show a profit? Does the city need to start charging for police and fire response to create an income?

I would think that the managers of each department of the city gathers information from multiple sources and may even check with other cities or departments before making a decision. I wonder how much time Mr. Kuhn has put into researching these purchases? And, if any department can still come in under budget why would you argue with them about replacing or updating equipment?

While we are on the subject, if Mr. Kuhn is going to verify every purchase and oversee every action, why should we be a paying for a city manager? Think of the money we could save.

I believe I will trust the city manager and let the rest of you trust Mr. Kuhn. Let's see which one gets the job done in the end, and what kind of job they do.

  20. Steve Archer works for Kuhn and the rest of the commmission. Put that in your pipe and smoke it! He is an appointed official that is appointed by elected officials called Commissioners...
Maybe Archer should start including his bosses more before he allows such frivolous spending to occur.

    ReplyDelete
  21. This particular spending is far from frivolous. Glocks are the best gun there is for Police use. That's why 70% or departments have gone to them. The other 30% have people like Kuhn running their cities.

    ReplyDelete
  22. 3:47 PM, Post. Just because it's in the budget, does that mean it should be spent? Or could it be the budgets are to big. Obviously you have never looked at the appropriations ordinance. If you did you might rethink your comments. [Maybe you've got money to burn]

  23. Shouldnet our police officers have reliable, accurate weapons? Aren't we saving money on training with the new deal? Isn't the total amount being talked about somewhere around $3,000? Give me a break. Lets focus on more important things.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Its way more than 3 grand and Wallace miss quoted the figure for H&K arms school he stated it cost 2000.00, according to H&K they will train for free In addition; there or many other cost besides the pistol itself, like the cost of holsters, mag pouches, re-training and re qualifying and familiarity, these all add up to more money and lost time.

More over the H&K we have in service now are very reliable and very safe.

It’s not about Guns it’s about SPENDING.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Accuracy is about the shooter not the weapon.

    ReplyDelete
  26. It's not about guns or spending; it's REALLY about following proper protocol.

    ReplyDelete
  27. The money is coming from drug seizures and not tax dollars, and since those funds can only be used for certain things related to the police fighting drugs, and since those funds are not part of the budget, what part of SPENDING is commissioner Kuhn concerned with?

    ReplyDelete
  28. Yes, i would like to know what the one has to do with another. If it is money seized from drug busts, exactly how would that have anything to do with the budget or tax dollars?

    ReplyDelete
  29. 5:08 PM Post. Must just be burning a hole in your pocket.

  30. I too would like a new pistol and gear! Times are tough right now and a lot of uncertainties with our political and economic climate. I am making a conscious decision to not spend the money right now. I believe the city too should cut back on spending. The ten year old side-arms are more than adequate for our force. Taxpayers are suffering and any unnecessary spending should not be tolerated. If we are worried about our officer's safety, I suggest getting them hardhats to wear when racing around our town.

  31. Bunch of winey babies on here!!!!

  32. Stay tuned. Mel Kuhn put his money where his mouth is. He contacted the H&R folks in California. The repairs parts that weren't available are in stock, even left handed and in quanity and said parts are to arrive in Ark City, Thursday. Can you say someone has egg on there face!

    ReplyDelete
  33. Is that true, or is Dustin spreading crap again? I seem to remember some IP address software that was going to bring them to our doorsteps.

Where is Kuhn to tell us the truth??

    ReplyDelete
  34. O'yes tis true. Dustin not anywhere near this one. Not a Mel Kuhn fan, but several folks were
"there" when he received the call. Even dead horses have a few more miles in them.

    ReplyDelete
  35. So where is Mell with this revelation? He should be speaking out and defending himself.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Don't worry, "The Rest of the Story" will be reveiled.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Todays work session could get interseting.

  38. JJ, your information is correct. I'm bringing the pop-corn and vasoline. Looking forward to your coverage, would be nice if you were allowed to blog it live. [Some of us who care are still working on that].

    ReplyDelete
  39. I still think even if parts were available that they should change to Glocks. But why would Wallace lie about parts not being available? He wouldn't let his left handed officer be out there with a gun that isn't 100%.

    ReplyDelete
  40. "I do not think Mr. Kuhn is being dishonest, I just think he does not have all the facts." Wallace

    I guess we will see

    ReplyDelete
  41. Glocks are not the best cop guns made even if YOU think they are.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Then what is? Are you a cop? Have you ever been one? Have you shot every type of gun used by modern law enforcement? Tell me what is better please.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Are you a cop?
Have you shot every type of gun used by modern law enforcement?

    ReplyDelete
  44. Cops have a hard time learning be proficient with their firearms no matter what they are. I only know a few that I would want to be around when they are handling a pistol, let alone shooting.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Reposted from another blog. can't have SG all upset :)

JJ, Missed the "press release"? Surely Chief Wallace sent you a press release about the "gun parts", that Mel Kuhn ordered and delivered to him. You know those that Wallace implied he was lying about. Oh maybe he's been so busy with his role as super sleuth in the movie, that he's not had time to write it yet. Surely Brand X, would want to make a front page release on that. No I don't care for Mel, but fair is fair. Wallace and to some extent Archer and Brand X roasted him, now it's there turn. Crow pie anyone?
