health, drugs

Since I dont have insurance at the moment, I was trying to find some decent prices online for my drugs.
Here is something interesting. For my acid reflux, i can get 90 pills for $60 from a company in the US. I can get the same pills for $30 from a company in England, and that is with paying shipping.
I just thought that was interesting.
These are drugs made in the US. So, they are made here, exported to england, and they can be imported back here at half the price.
Im getting more and more skeptical of horror tales of medicine in England.

  1. I wonder if it has to do with taxes here in the US?

  2. So just because you found some medicine cheaper in the UK then all the horror stories of the UK NHS are lies? That doesn't even make sense jj.

  3. James,

I had the same experience 4 years ago when I was in South America on vacation. I forgot one of my prescription drugs that I take on a daily basis.I was able to get a 30 days supply for $6.00. My co-pay in the States for the same drug was $15.00. The drug was manufactured in the United States and shipped to Ecuador, and was still cheaper.

  4. So that makes hospital shortages and rationing in other countries a lie? How do you come to that conclusion. Not very scientific of you.

  5. I said nothing about a lie.
Some people sure get edgy when you go to messing with pre-conceived notions.

  6. Perhaps, there in england is no fear of legal issues if you take the drug and have a reaction and sue. Also, in England you have to wait for long lines to see a doc. Not sure how it is now but it used to be they got paid to see a certain number of patients per day and when they saw those they were done. Had to be in line early to be one...

  8. yes, the system needs reforming.
I dont understand why some people insist on defending it so adamantly.
Capitalism is great, but when there are no controls we see abuses happen, just like we are in the USA.

  9. From CNN-Money Today: Heres the first part - you'll have to read the rest!

NEW YORK (Fortune) -- This is the fifth installment in a series of health-care columns by Fortune's Shawn Tully.

The Obama Administration is touting its pact with the pharmaceutical industry as "an historic agreement to lower drug costs." Both sides claim the deal will save consumers -- and especially -- the federal government, a total of $80 billion over the next decade.

A close look at the details of the agreement, however, shows that the new rules could have precisely the opposite effect by substantially raising spending on pharmaceuticals. Seniors will wind up paying less in the short term, but taxpayers are going to get soaked down the road.

Why? Because the deal would weaken incentives for seniors to purchase cheap, generic drugs, incentives that are strong today. It's brilliantly designed by the manufacturers so that the elderly pay no more from their own pockets to consume costly, brand-name medications, with the government covering most of the extra bill.

Man, you people need to learn to read. It's not simply because he said he could find meds cheaper, it's because he said "Im getting more and more skeptical of horror tales of medicine in England." as if because he could find meds cheaper, their whole system was superior.

  14. Doesn't the city provide a plan for prescriptions for people who don't have insurance? I'm sure I read something in Brand-X and I thought I heard it being discussed at the pharmacy in Wal-Mart. A clerk in the pharmacy was telling a customer about it. Any info on it?

  15. Yes it does
The program has a long list of drugs you can get at a big discount.
Some drugs are not included ...

  16. I know from a cousin that is on seizure meds and it helps a little bit. I suppose it would also depend on what medicine it is too. If you are looking for one, you can find it at city hall where you pay the water bill.

"The drug was manufactured in the United States and shipped to Ecuador, and was still cheaper."

that's crazy...says something about our system of getting the meds into the hands of those who need it.
