Friday morning

Good morning.
The cop notes are posted on the site.
Also, the fishing column has been posted. Its an interesting story about a local fishing trip. The fishing page is taking shape and growing.
I hope to have other pages of that nature in the near future. The thing I want to do with the site is make it a a reflection of our community.
There are a lot of positive things about our area, and a lot of good and positive people doing good and positive things.
Ill have more news on the site later today.

There was some interesting discussion of national health care yesterday. on Bytedaily's blog, there is a quote from McCain and Obama, from during the campaign. They have different approaches but basically agree.
I have to agree with Obama on this one. He says that in a country as prosperous as ours, there are people going broke because they cannot pay for insurance or health care. He sees that as wrong. I do too.

  1. OMG JJ, how many times does these posters on here have to tell you. How dare you agree with Obama. Every last person in the United States cant afford the insurance cuz they are lazy bums that don't work and have lots and lots and lots of toys. Yep! every last one of us! (Yes, I'm being sarcastic!)

  3. JJ, I got something I'm curious about. I've noticed in the police notes about responses to suicidal people. Would the police know or wiling to tell you if the amount of suicide calls is going up or is this the norm?

  4. re: agreeing with obama. I know, the perils of being neither right nor left. Both sides want to play politics - including obummer - and not really accomplish anything.
On the suicidal question. I get the monthly report, ill check and see next time it comes out.
I could probably find out, but it does seem to me that there are more reports of that than in other places I have lived.

  5. I still feel sorry for you. I'm just glad I don't have the handout mentality. Maybe if your mom and dad had raised you better this country wouldn't be in this mess-- and now I'm sure you've started another generation of bleeding heart democrats. It use to be embarrassing to get a handout -- now you think it's cool. Yes I really just said that.

  6. To 10:13,
To most it is still embarrassing to get a hand out but sometimes there is need. And when those times come they don't need someone like you looking down their nose at them. Yes, there are those who will take advantage of the system. But I have to truely believe that most would really like to make it without the help of government and do it all....just like you did in your perfect world. We are so proud of you that you have done so well for yourself. We all know that because you have told us. Now the rest of us will have some compassion for those who are in need of jobs, insurance...ect...ect...ect....

  7. Mine is far from a perfect world, I just believe in taking care of myself and family. Now those that truly need help for awhile is one thing -- there is too many that abuse it and that is forcing the rest of us to change EVERTHING. Including the illegal immigrants. I'm sorry, I can't feel sorry for someone who won't help themselves. I have a friend on welfare that won't work that has more money in savings than I do. God Bless America! And she did get all her health care FREE for the 2 kids she had. Do I feel sorry for kids that need it - sure. That's why we have a program in Kansas to give those kids health care. Most of their parents are too lazy to fill out the paperwork necessary get it. Probably explains why their too lazy to get a job. There is a surplus of money in that account here in Kansas. I have had to make a ton of sacrafices - something we as a society don't seem to believe in any more, including you.

  8. I'm so proud you've found a way to milk the system for you and yours...and now just one more thing you can get for free!! WooHoo! How exciting. I wonder what else we can get for free? Everyone needs a car too right? Maybe since the government is running GM, we can all get free cars next? Just imagine the possibilities with this!! What else is a Right? I'll be eating my bologna sandwich at lunch while I'm sure you're eating it up on your food stamps.

  13. I saw a program on public telvision last night that gave alot of information on this health care program on both sides of the issue. From what I am understanding the issue is left deliberatly unclear to keep the opposing side from picking it apart, for decades some presidents have been trying to fix the health care system but there are always others that try to shoot it down without offering another way out. So we do nothing. Meanwhile, private healtcare business is getting bigger and bigger and less efficient but still more costly. Their oppinion was that we do need to fix it but not with the present system. We need to create a whole other system because to throw money at a broken system would be unfruitful.
They say that a government alternative would not put the private insurance out of business it would be another program similar to medicare but would be paid into according to wage earnings, or that is what I understand would happen. So it wouldn't be free for most but would be an affordable option for those who just can't pay the private insurance fee's.
According to the plan we have right now in the works in Washington the insurance companies are on board because it would require everyone to have insurance and they would benifit by it. So in some states they are advertising for it to pass. But the hang up here would be that THEY would be the ones to benifit from this healthcare bill.....along with the drug companies. The drug companies are offering some discounts for this health care plan as well, but only if it is name brand drugs that is issued and not the generic. They plan to use this to their benifit as well. This is what I understand so far about the health care program proposal in Washington. Does anyone else have any other information to add to make this understandable?

  14. Good post, thanks. I think you summarized it pretty well.

  15. Why should someone that is relatively healthy be required to pay for healthcare that they don't need? I could understand requiring a savings or other plan to protect the individual, but there is no room forcing people to pay for something they don't need.

From what I've seen, the most affordable health care is Major Medical which usually doesn't cover routine things, doctor visits, prescriptions, etc. It also usually has a huge deductible up to $5-$10K. So all the money paid in there is no result unless you have a catastrophic health failure. Though this might be good for business, it does not look good for the individual. And let's face it, once the individuals are tapped out there is nothing left for business anyway.

  16. There are those who do gamble and choose to live without healthcare. And I don't care how healthy you are, there will always be a need for health care.
The present day system is the result of the healthcare program we have here in the US that is broken. Your right, major medical is the most afordable health care right now. And it isn't working for many many many people. So they have to go without.

  17. I don't mind helping people get healthcare that need it BUT for those that spend money on non-essential items i.e. boats, fancy trips, etc. so that I can pay for them I get really irritated.

Not having insurance (house, car, health) because you choose not to budget for it and not having insurance because you can't afford it are two distinct differences.

I have insurance but I don't have many things that the money I spend there would buy. It is not the government's responsibility to take care of me. I will help those that can't afford it but draw the line on those that make poor choices.
