Ark City school public relations officer Alisha Call just told me that there is about a 15-percent increase in absences yesterday and today, district wide. There may be more at the high school, but she wasnt sure about individual schools.
The schools report absences for illness to the state health department.
"We are monitoring the situation," she said.
Nothing has been canceled at this point. They are not planning on closing any schools. Call said to close a school would have to be approved by the health department.
She said a school would not be closed until the district was directed to by the health department.
The local district could cancel games and other activities. Call said there are no plans to cancel any event at this point.
School officials do recommend students and teachers stay home of they are sick with flu-like conditions.
At present it is not known if the swine flu is involved.
There is swine flu involved - why are they pretending like it isn't. If they test postive for influenza A then it is assumed it is swine flu. They won't send it off to confirm. And now they don't even want you to come in to test.
ReplyDeleteIf you call the Ark City clinic - they have a flu hotline and they tell you they aren't testing because they already know swine flu is present here.
The point was, that they do not know at this time how much of it is swine flu.
ReplyDeletethere is some involved probably.
i guess results are not back yet
It is way to early for seasonal flu.
ReplyDeleteChances are all of it is H1N1.
There have been postponements of some activities. The choir concert has been pushed back for one.
ReplyDeleteWhen is the choir concert. I thought it was like Tuesday and I had missed it.
ReplyDeleteI think that was the Middle School Choir that was Tuesday!
