Getting ready for city commission

Ill be heading out to the city commission meeting in awhile. It is at 7 p.m. at city hall. You are invited. It is open to the public.
Not a lot on there, but there are some issue floating around City Hall that I hope to get to real soon.
I put a story up about the Ark City cops from Newscow. We both had that before Brand-X. Actually I think I get a lot of stuff before Brand X does. A lot of stuff they have first. When I have something first, Im gonna tweak them, when they do, im gonna say it doesn't matter. :)
I have also updated the sports page. There is some good stuff there from Big 12 football, but I am not sure if anyone is reading it. If you like it let me know.

Another case involving using names has come up.
A 49 year old Arkansas City man has been charged with raping a juvenile female. Of course we don't use the female's name, but the question is, should we use the man's name?
The way the courts are, it could be a year or more before it is resolved, and if he were to be acquitted, we might never know. Same if he is guilty, but we are more likely to hear about a sentencing than a not guilty verdict.
So what to do?
Ive not decided yet. Brand-X is going to have this first. They have already used the man's name. Am i being overly cautious here?

Ok, thats enough rambling for now. Ill try to get my story done tonight.

  2. as reported by Brand-X

An Arkansas City man was arrested Monday and charged with raping a young girl.

Kevin Ray Jennings, 49, was arrested after an ongoing investigation by the Arkansas City Police Department's Crimes Against Children Task Force.

After conducting interviews with the suspect, the victim and possible witnesses, and also conducting a search of the suspect's home, detectives found enough probable cause to make an arrest.

Jennings was transported to the Cowley County Jail, where he remained this morning, on a $25,000 bond.

  3. posting arrest records is not a character assasination nor is it considered to be defamation.
News is News if you sing the blues cause your in the news develop clues so you dont lose.

False arrest is another story, however those facts will remain unknown untill conviction or plea.
Givin the facts in the case, it would seem that there are grounds for arrest and evidence for the charges.

  4. If you have been around long enough you would know JJ doesn't care to post names. Maybe it shouldn't be until their is a plea bargain or verdict. What if the guy is not guilty? Someones name is smeared with doubts the rest of his life? What if he is guilty, the public should be aware of these charges being brought against the guy. My personal opinion? I've had a family member go through this and I would of loved to see his name plastered on the front page. Tough call.

  8. Who cares if it is? I don't, because I don't judge people based on maybe what a family member did.
