  Chief Sean Wallace said ..
Parties such as this one broken up by the Arkansas City Police Department are very dangerous.  Over 50% of the reported rapes in Arkansas City occur at underage drinking parties, and recently in Augusta a 14 year old girl was shot and killed at such a gathering.  Drinking underage is not a right of passage.  It is illegal, dangerous, and will be enforced with a zero tolerance policy by the Arkansas City Police Department.

  3. Lighten up! We've all had our "right of passage" and are still very responsible adults just as everyone at the party will one day be too. Think CC needs to have a little fun every now and then.

  4. Well from what I can see of this party, all but three of them were old enough to go to war for their country. So their probably were old enough to have a beer at the damn party. I say change the age for underage drinking, OR change the age you can send our kids to war!

  5. The law is the law. But I agree the drinking age should be back to 18, until then it is still 21. I know a few of those kids and it is not the first rite of passage and if the cops would have did some blood work, they might have found more then alcohol.

  6. Teaching kids that some of you adults think it's okay for them to be criminals just because you were at that age is not a very good lesson. Drinking underage is dangerous and stupid. Good job to the law enforcement involved for busting the party. I hope they find out who provided it and bust them as well.

  7. When we were being raised back in the 60s, the ones who did this sort of partying are now the ones who are still doing it. The only difference is society has made it look innocent for us adults to go out and drink, get us home safe and sound, so we can do it all again next weekend.
I graduated from a small town (less than 1000 people) where other than the Friday night game there was nothing to do. Drinking was it for a lot of them. Sadly enough, we lost two before we even graduated due to drinking. When we had our 40th reunion this year, the ones who partied the hardiest in 69 were still partying hardy today with not much to show for life.
It is not the fact that the age should be lowered or kept at 21, it is the fact that chidren are more likely to become addicted at such a young age that at an age in the later years. When do most people become addicted to smoking? When do most become addicted to drinking? If you answered yes, then you are right. Look it up, research it, work with those kids, and you will see it effects our drop out rates, our lack of attendance in school and college, and our deaths. Those who can do it and survive are more likely to have the same problems later in life, but now it is acceptable because they are at the age to do it. If you think it is a good thing for them to come of age, then you get in there and work with them. Which matters most to them-their education or their drinking? And no, I am not uptight! And yes, I have one drink every weekend. And yes, I use to party hardy when I was in my last year of college, and even beyond graduation. Then I started working with young people of all age, and it opened my eyes to what really means to come of age to do it legally. It means now I can do it legally and do it more. I will say it doesn't happen to all who party, but you have to remember those who cannot stop their rush for drinking, drugs, smokes, and they are blessing our casiinos today. If you have an addictive personality, you can and probably will become addicted to anything and everything that gives you the satisfaction that you so desire. Even if it is food, addictions are the reason we are the reason for self control learned at an young age.
Get real, quit closing your eyes, know the truths, and wake up, Ark City. It is the law because it is the safest for our kids- now and in their future~~~

  8. it may also be safer to just cut thier hands off and maybe we can shelter them all their lives

  9. Yeah, because cutting their hands off is the same as sheltering them huh! That's the dumbest thing I've read on this blog in quite a while.

  10. Drinking is fun! It gets such a bad rep from so many people and its hilarious. whether they are 17 or 45 they are just as likely to become addicted. The person is the deciding factor, not the drug or drink. The police should be ashamed for arresting and criminalizing kids just trying to blow off some steam! How many deaths occur from drunk driving because ADULTS drive home from the bar and hit someone?! AND THEY"RE LEGAL! lol. One or two accidents from alcohol doesnt make it the rule same as the police shouldnt make absurd claims like sexual assaults are common at underage drinking parties. If your one of the kids arrested at this party and are reading this, keep partying! Dont let those pinko commy fascists get you down.
