Newscow reports Northern Contours closing

Northern Contours – a producer of cabinetry and other home fixtures – will close its plant in Arkansas City at the end of the month, interim manager Bronze Hill said Thursday.
The plant, located at 102 Goff Industrial Park Rd., employs six civilians and 23 inmates from the Winfield Correctional Facility. Company officials have notified the correctional facility of the closing.
Hill said the decision was due to a “lack of business.” The local plant produces a variety of veneer cabinet panels.
Northern Contours operates plants in Kentucky and Minnesota in addition to the facility in Ark City. The company is headquartered in Mendota Heights, Minn.
The official closing date for the local plant – which opened in 2006 – is Oct. 30.
Hill is managing the facility through the closure process. He succeeds a manager who left the company in a departure unrelated to the closing.

  1. The former manager is Mickey Roarke, same name as the actor, he used to live or still does live in Winfield. I do not know why he is no longer with the company but he was the driving force behind the company being here and doing what it was doing.

  2. All that cheap labor and they still couldn't make it work?

Serves them right for giving jobs to convicts when they should have given them to people in the community.
