Boomer Saia and Jacey Juden, who graduated from Arkansas City High School in 2007 and Cowley College in 2009, were recently named finalists for the college male and female athletes of the year. The winners will be announced at the 12th annual Greater Wichita Area Sports Commission Banquet held June 26 at Wichita’s Hyatt Regency.
Cincinnati Reds hall of fame catcher Johnny Bench will present the Coleman Company - Johnny Bench award. Other awards to be presented include the Lynette Woodard High School Female Athlete of the Year, the Barry Sanders High School Male Athlete of the Year, and the Professional Athlete of the Year.
Gregg Marshall, head men’s basketball coach at Wichita State University, will be the keynote speaker. The annual Greater Wichita Sports Banquet recognizes excellence in sports in southcentral Kansas. The event will begin at 6 p.m. with a reception and silent auction, while the banquet will follow at 7:15 p.m.
