Man airlifted after gunshot wound

Allen Herman was taken to a Wichita Hospital earlier today after suffering a gunshot wound, according to several sources.
He is said to have suffered the wound in Arkansas City around noon.
I have not been able to get official confirmation, or any information as to the source of the gunshot.
A nearby business owner said the wound was to the head, and that Hermann is in critical condition.

  9. Brand X reported he died on their web site, now they have a retraction.
Wonder if anyone will get in trouble over that?

  10. JJ, Do I detect that if offered you'd be back at Brand X in a heart beat?

  11. No. I didn't say that and I don't think I implied that either.

  13. Nice guy? Really?

  14. I really don't know the family other than just living here in AC all my life. This really isn't the time to run any of them down, have a little common decency and respect. Please, lets show that we really are a nice community. Maybe we should all try a little kindness for awhile in politics too!

  15. As a family member of Allen Herman I think it's extremely rude to be saying derogatory things about his sons at a time like this.

And when he recovers and sees what was said on here about his family, and that it was reported that he died, I hope he receives an apology.

  16. It sure is nice that people are talking about how his sons are brats and they are going throught the worst possible thing anyone could ever imagine. Have a little respect.

  17. I do think the public deserves to know that there is not a gunman out there at large.

  18. Reporting on the story is understandable. Reporting he died when he did not is not okay.

  19. That is my worry, the story is so vague it doesn't tell us if it was an incident/accident or a gunmen on the loose. And if it is a private matter, then why report on it at all?

  20. Aren't guns great?

  21. Fair enough...there is no gunman on the loose to clarify. All the rest of the details are nobody's business at this time until they figure it all out and decide to share it.

I do not know this family, but have some tact. No matter what you think of Allen or his sons, now is not the time to say such hurtful things. You will not change people, nor make yourself feel better by saying such disrespectful things.

My reliable source has said he is expected to live, is responsive, can move fingers and toes on command, but will require much physical therapy. I have every reason to believe this is correct and I will continue praying for this family.

  22. I think you have to report on it just so there won't be wild tales about a gunman at large running around.
But, Chief Wallace says the police are treating it as though it were a self inflicted wound.
Saying that, is enough I think.
Whether intentional or not, is perhaps a family matter that does not need to be speculated upon.

  23. Yeah, I'm sure the gun jumped off the nightstand and shot him by itself. Let's not turn this time of tragedy into a debate on the second amendment. I would be happy to debate you on any other thread though. Show some respect. Liberals will use anything to their political whim, won't they! Jeez.

  28. I can't believe the way you people are on here running this family to the ground. Have some respect and morals. What's going on in their personal lives is none of our business! Obviously this family is going through alot right now and they need all the support they can get. They don't need the community bad mouthing them. So grow up!

  30. I like Allen, I like his family, but that dude had been in need of some help for quite some time. No way should he have been allowed to carry a gun.

  34. I remember when the person hung themself at Walnut Park, recently. The gossip around town said it was Allen. I've heard his vehicle was spotted at the location. Many were not suprised he would end up in that kind of situation and accepted the gossip to be true. Take from that what you will.

  35. I too have heard from someone pretty darn close to his immediate family that as of 11AM he is doing pretty well and should make it through. Up walking around even. Please pray for him and his family and his return to mental and physical health.

  36. One thing I hope people learn from this, with all due respect and love to his family, if someone you know is having self-destructive issues - do something about it to help them. Get them to a therapist, a preacher, a doctor, law enforcement, someone - and if they won't go willingly - figure out some way to force them or make them. Especially if they are young or are not acting like themselves lately. I bet this could have been avoided.

  37. I am a family member of Allen from Colorado and all I ask is that you have some compassion and respect for his family in KS. Please send your prayers to him and his family. Although he is expected to survive, he surely will not be the same. This has been a horrible event in our lives and do not wish this upon anyone else. Thank you in advance for your prayers.

  38. Sent my prayers already, but I'll be happy to send them again.
