Relay for Life

The Relay for Life has started and is still going on. It will last until daybreak, so you can still go and watch.

Fern McManus was told she had a few weeks to live when she was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.
That version of cancer is hard to treat and the prognosis is not normally good. But its been over a year since that day, and her battle with cancer continues.
She told her story as the Relay for Life got underway in Winfield Friday.
After she and another family spoke about their battle with cancer, more than 200 people began a 12-hour walk at Sonner Stadium Friday evening.
They will finish around daylight Saturday in their symbolic battle with cancer as part of the annual Relay for Life. The event usually raises a lot of money for the fight against cancer.
Several teams sponsored by organizations and businesses raised money and had tents set up for the evening.
There will be bands playing throughout the evening, as well as dunk tanks and other games. Sheriff Don Read took a turn in the dunk booth.
McManus had survived a bout with skin cancer in 2005, and got sick again in 2008. She was able to go to a cancer treatment center in Illinois, and had a lot of treatments. She was going every 21 days for three days of chemotherapy for awhile.
She has not completely won the battle yet, but the doctors have told her she does not have to come back for more treatments for three months.
