Arkansas City will not be the focus now, but we can still talk about the town. For now the blog is a blog in search of an identity. Considering what the new niche will be.

Miracles for Maycom
There is a good crowd out at the fund raiser for Macom Ball at Wilson Park. It will be going on until about 8 p.m.
There is going to be a dunk tank with some city commissioners involved.
I have to go somewhere else for awhile, but I will try to get back by there before they get that going.
There is also an account at CornerBank for Maycom where donations can be made.

There was a nice big turnout, and it looked like a lot of maney was being raised. It's great to see a community come together to help a family in need.
ReplyDeleteThat said, the a-hole in me wonders what the city would say if anyone else called and asked to have the whole fire department bring their trucks out and give rides in the EMS helicopter for a private family charity?
I did go, and did donate, but that struck me as a little wrong. I do hope they brought in a ton of money though. I'm not a total a-hole.
Donating something you could afford will not make you a saint or keep you from being an a- hole.
ReplyDeleteThat said; your post is correct Sir.
ReplyDeleteHow do you know I could afford it? Maney daesn't graw on trees ya knaw.
ReplyDeleteBecause you are an a-hole!
ReplyDeleteA-Hole, I think your attitude will change when Cody, or one of the other fine firefighter/paramedics, come to save your life.
ReplyDeleteYeah it was a great fundraiser and I think if someone else was to ask for help setting one up then they would get it. It just takes one relative or concerned person to get the ball rolling. There was a fundraiser and I believe it was last year and he wasn't affiliated with any of the city, ems, police, fire, etc.
ReplyDeleteIf you worked for a good and caring boss and company, they would do whatever they could for you, but then again, you are an a**hole, so probably not.
ReplyDeleteI have to agree. When that company and it's employees run on tax dollars, is that fair to use it for a private charity? I don't think they would do that for everyone who asked. Especially the helocopter rides. Have you ever gotten a bill for one of those to Wichita?
ReplyDeleteEagle Med is a private company. Life Watch is owned by Wesley. No tax dollars there.
ReplyDeleteI would like to think the city would do the same for anybody. But I kinda doubt it.
ReplyDeleteSome people can find something negative to say about anything.
ReplyDeleteWhat can you think of bad to say about the weather Saturday.
I wish we could pass a tax on negativity
The town did something good...leave it at that and don't pick it apart. Be proud that we came together as a community and helped a family. Isn't this what living in a small community is all about. We should pat ourselves on the back. If we pick it apart then people will be slow to do it for someone else (perhaps you or your family) the next time. Thanks Ark City for making me believe in good deeds again.
ReplyDeleteThe one's bitching are probably the one's that didn't go or didn't give more than $1.00. I was there the entire evening, and donated over $100.00. It was a wonderful evening and over $20,000.00 was raised. What a wonderful community I am sorry a*hole is a part of it, just to try and bring a family in need down.
ReplyDeleteGreat job AC!
ReplyDelete10:43 am, you only donated $100. And you're putting me down for speaking my mind when I feel something is unfair? It just rubbed me the wrong way is all. I think the cause was very important and just, and I'm very glad that the people of Ark City gave of their time and money, Some more than others it seems, but that doesn't mean it should be done for one family and not the next. I have seen too many fundraisers go virtually ignored and now it makes me think that it was simply due to the job the parents had and not the need of the family or child.
ReplyDeleteI wish they could all get huge fundraisers like that one. What's fair for one should be fair for all. That's all I'm saying. The next time someone has a charity to raise money for, I hope they go to the city and request all the things this one had. And I hope they get it. But I'm betting they won't.
