Wildflower tour

We went to the Cowley County Wildflower Tour today on the Snyder Ranch east of Winfield, in Eastern Cowley County.
They had to take two buses there were so many people. It was a really good tour.
Driving down the highway you don't usually think that there are a lot of wildflowers beside the road, but out in the fields there were lots of them. There were people guiding the tour who actually knew the names of the flowers.
It was impressive to see so many wildflowers in one place.
This was part of the Tallgrass Prairie, and has never been plowed or developed. It has been grazed with cattle since the first settlers showed up.
Here are a few pictures.
There will be more on the web site .

  4. Just want to take the opportunity to thank you for attending the wildflower tour and sharing our passion. It is always such a treat to share tidbits of ag information with the general public. Without these well managed native grasslands, beef would not be the number one commodity in Cowley County.
