Arkansas City should be proud of itself today. It gathered and showed great support for the family of a fallen soldier.
The turnout was great yesterday, and was great today at the funeral. The auditorium was packed.
Ran across State Rep. Ed Trimmer, D-Winfield, as I was leaving. He was impressed with the turnout.
The turnout by the Patriot Guard was also impressive. The organizers of a lunch for them were also pleased that people in Ark City donated plenty of food and money to pay for that.
I did not see it, but I heard there was a bit of manure on one of the street corners. Everyone ignored it and it evaporated.
Good job Ark City.
Ignoring it is the best any of us can do.Its kinda like sewer scum, if you break the scum, it will stink to high heaven. If you leave it alone it still looks bad but it will evenutally go away. God loves soldiers.....
ReplyDeleteWe should have the right to question our leadership and Government. To test them regularly for their motives and intent. We should also relaize that there are those who wish to do us harm.
ReplyDeleteBut, it is not ever acceptable to question the honor of those who give all in fulfilling their duty to our country.
I think a lot of the Patriot Guard understand that more than anyone else due to the way many of them were accepted back into society when they returned from the Viet Nam War.
We as citizens regardless of our views should all honor those who serve in the military and never forget their sacrifices be it life or limb!
I understand both comments above. I really appreciate that the second focused on what matters. I think the name calling contests offers that element a small moral victory.
ReplyDeleteSometimes it is better to highlight your position rather than argue against the other. Condescending makes them feel as if they are on your level. They are not. Applaud the original by James AND Anon 1 and Anon 2.
On my way to Tyler’s service as I walked down 5th Avenue past the small group of protestors waving their hateful signs. What caught my eyes and ears was the group of about twenty high school/college aged young people across the street from the protestors waving American flags and singing God Bless America. I thought that was the perfect counter protest and it really touched my heart.
