We are in Elwood, Kansas. Almost Nebraska.
We were trying to find this scenic route from Leavenworth to White Cloud (northeastern most point in Kansas) but the GPS had other ideas. We ended up on this tiny dirt road for about 10 miles. Wasnt room enough to turn around, so ... what else can you do. We did stop and take pictures, which ill post tomorrow.
Dogs thought it was great.
We stopped in this little town after finding a small cheap motel in Elwood. Had we not taken the gps-induced detour, we would have gotten to White Cloud and back to atchison at least, to stay for the night.
Owner of the motel didnt really speak english, but the place is clean and much nicer than where we stayed Saturday at a much higher price in Leavenworth. In Leavenworth hotels cost more, and they wanted deposits for the dogs. I could understand if the deposits were like $5 and refundable. A deposit of $25 for each animal, and not refunded, was not understandable. The dogs were righteously indignant as well.
We spent the day exploring Leavenworth. Went by the big prison but you cant go in. Youre not even supposed to take pictures from across the street.
Leavenworth was the first city founded in Kansas.
Saturday we headed north. stopped off at a dog park in Emporia. That was pretty cool. The dogs had a blast. I wasnt so sure how they would react to other dogs, but they were fine. I guess all dogs are outside their terrority and dont have to defend anything.
Today we toured a carosel museum. The Parker carosels were all made here,. Was interesting;.
Ill have pictures posted tomorrow afternoon.
Gretchen is wanting to write a column again. I might leter tomorrow or the next day.
