Update from the Walnut Valley festival

Here is the latest from the folks at the Walnut Valley Festival in Winfield.

High Water Update from Walnut Valley Festival

Winfield, Kansas …The National Weather Service has released a revised report updating the information pertaining to the possible flooding of the Walnut River. The report now states that with no more rain falling upstream, the Walnut River at Winfield should crest around one o’clock Thursday afternoon at approximately 18.9 feet. This is several feet lower than the originally estimated 25.6 feet. 19.2 feet is just slightly over the 18 foot flood stage. The revised water height will mean that most of the festival campgrounds will be above the water level and should remain reasonably dry.

The high water has forced festival staff to move the opening of the campgrounds, known as land rush from 7:00 am. Thursday, September 10th until 7:00 am. Saturday, September 12. Vehicles that are already in line for the landrush will not be evacuated or moved prior to the Saturday opening. Due to limited parking space, festival staff are asking that if at all possible campers not arrive at the fairgrounds prior to the Saturday morning opening of the campgrounds.
