prariefest seeks input

The folks who are putting on PrarieFest are looking for public input. Here is your chance to be heard.
Thursday, Sept 3, at 7 p.m., there will be a public meeting on PrairieFest.
The meeting is for all citizens who would like to come and give their input on PrairieFest 2010. The meeting will be at the Arts Council offices at 110 S.
Summit. Although this festival is organized by the Arts Council, it is
still a community fest, in which our citizens should have ownership.
Carla Brake and Teresa Swope-Hatfield are directing the event this year and want all the
input we can gather from the people of Ark City.

  1. I will be unable to attend the meeting tonight because of a church obligation but I hope Prairiefest will define definite goals before continuing any changes. What is the goal of the event and why move it continuously. It has to be appealing to the artists (last year it was NOT) and it has to be appealing to those that want to see the artists, visit with each other and enjoy the event (last year it was NOT). It is supposedly an art event but do they want to have a craft show, a mixed media event, a talent show, showcase the Burford, the downtown, the college? The format needs to be changed but I like Wilson Park and the feel it brings to the event. The event brings the community together as much for socializing as for art buying which is the goal. You will not get people to buy art if they aren't there and if they can't see each other and have social opportunities at the event they won't be there. The Friday night event is nice but lots of work and what is the purpose of that again? The date conflicts with other shows and keeps us from attracting artists so perhaps the date should be different. There are many questions and the event is great but needs some tweaking.

Thank you for your input. The meeting is Thursday, so perhaps you can make it? We will definitely consider what you have said. This is the kind of feedback we need.
    All the best
